Default 996 headlights

I have a 2000 996 c2 fitted with xenon lights....lately I found out there are aftermarket bulbs that can fit with the assembly. Can someone pls explain to me how many lights is there in the xenon assembly? Fog lights? High Beam? Low Beam (factory xenon)? And there is one yellow dim lights too? Because I want to change out this dim yellow light and I just don;'t know what it is.... this light turns on when I turn the light dial clockwise one click....definitely not the high beam....

I just bought a pair of H6W L.E.D. parking lights from the UK. I installed them last night and are very happy with them. They are even whiter than the Litronics (Xenon)! I'll try to take a picture today.

Holy krikey, Prog. You must get back to us with that. I CAN'T wait to see how they look. Brilliant idea.

By the way, there were two different types of the LED bulbs on their site. How did you know which one to get? One listed voltage safe up to 14.5V and the other stated voltage safe up to 16V. I noticed you got the 16V, so I assume that's the way to go? Cheers.

I got tired of replacing those blue-coated aftermarket H6W bulbs (Philips BlueVision, Hoen, etc.) -- not only were they still a bit yellowish, they kept burning out after a couple of months! I decided to try the L.E.D.s to see if they would match the Xenons better and last longer. Well, they are whiter than the Xenons so that's good and L.E.D.s are supposed to last forever but I guess we'll see. Some report problems with L.E.D.s failing due to excessive heat in the headlight enclosure but I don't think that should be a problem in this case because the Xenons run much cooler than the halogens. I'll post some pictures tonight.

Thanks Prog. Sorry, but I quickly edited my post to include a question re: 14.5V vs. 16V. I presume 16V is the way to go?

No problem. I pasted a link beneath the picture above but it is easy to miss. This is what I ordered:

H6W BAX9 - 9mm BC 6 Leds White Bulb Offset Pins (Pair) £7.48
http://www.ultraleds.co.uk/product_i...54b0fe8568ccb1

They're 12 volts but have a built in voltage regulator and should be safe up to 16 volts according to the website.

My H6W bulbs blew as well - annoying as hell, had to find a dealer that had them... Do these bulbs blow frequently?

Like Programmatore said, they do seem to. Indeed, I went through 2 pairs of the 'blue' bulbs in my previous car before going back to stock. It was always such a hassle. I'm hoping these LEDs solve the problem. Indeed, the light color should much more nicely blend with the Xenon headlights.

Even the dealer bulbs blow out quickly for me. I get about 6 months of use. The LED's are interesting I will have to look into them.

I will recommend that you never touch the bulbs with your bare hands. Always wear gloves (latex, for example) when changing them because the natural oil from your body definitely contributes to creating a hot spot on the bulb and they consequently burn out faster.

How many Rennlister's does it take to change a light bulb?

1 to change the light bulb and to post that the light bulb has been changed
14 to share similar experiences of changing light bulbs and how the light bulb could have been changed differently
7 to caution about the dangers of changing light bulbs
1 to move it to the Lighting section
2 to argue then move it to the Electricals section
7 to point out spelling/grammar errors in posts about changing light bulbs
5 to flame the spell checkers
3 to correct spelling/grammar flames
6 to argue over whether it's "lightbulb" or "light bulb" ... another 6 to condemn those 6 as stupid
2 industry professionals to inform the group that the proper term is "lamp"
15 know-it-alls who claim they were in the industry, and that "light bulb" is perfectly correct
19 to post that this forum is not about light bulbs and to please take this discussion to a lightbulb forum
11 to defend the posting to this forum saying that we all use light bulbs and therefore the posts are relevant to this forum
36 to debate which method of changing light bulbs is superior, where to buy the best light bulbs, what brand of light bulbs work best for this technique and what brands are faulty
7 to post URL's where one can see examples of different light bulbs
4 to post that the URL's were posted incorrectly and then post the corrected URL's
3 to post about links they found from the URL's that are relevant to this group which makes light bulbs relevant to this group
13 to link all posts to date, quote them in their entirety including all headers and signatures, and add "Me too"
5 to post to the group that they will no longer post because they cannot handle the light bulb controversy
4 to say "didn't we go through this already a short time ago?"
13 to say "do a Google search on light bulbs before posting questions about light bulbs"
1 conspiracy theorist to proclaim that light bulbs are really a Bush tactic to take focus off of Iraq and the WMD issue.
1 to redirect the enlightening post to the Abyss.
1 forum lurker to respond to the original post 6 months from now and start it all over again.

P.S. I did not write these, but as they say successfully stolen is half completed.

Rob, I just about shat myself reading that.

Sad, but so true in a satirical way.
