Hey guys I have recently become interested in possibly getting a 996 but I do not know much about them as far as reliablity and such. If anyone could tell me roughly how much I might have spend a year in maintenance I'd appreciate it. I am considering either a late 99 or 2000 coupe. Thanks!

I had a '99 996 C2 cabriolet that was a daily driver that I traded in for an '02 cab after 3 yrs. and 55k mi. The car was incredibly reliable (never once broke down) and not inordinatley expensive to maintain. The 15k service was about $300 at the dealer and the 30k service $700. Tires do tend to need to be replaced more often depending on how aggressive you drive.

I have a 99 c2 coupe with 21k miles and no major problems occurred so far. Other then what was noted early on which you can check on the archives ie air bag lite/oil leaks(replaced with new seals under warranty), center console hinge breakage, coolant level flashes(needed new reservoir) and suposedly check engine lite which some had stated to deal with the gas cap which didn't happen to me. Worse I heard is total engine replacement due to coolant/oil mixing but from what I heard ahppen in the first 2500 miles or so. Like the above post service is not too far fetch price wise. My '99 is still serving me very well and I'm loving it more each day. Regards. Mike

I drive a 00 996 Cab daily. It will be 2 years old in May. My maintance costs have just been 1 set of tires, oil changes, etc. It has been in for service several times but they were all minor warranty issues.
It goes in for the 15K tuneup next week.
Good luck.

We have a 2000 C2 Cab with 20,000+ miles -- the biggest cost so far was replacing the tires at 13,000 miles. Otherwise very little maintenance, especially if you do some of the easy stuff yourself.
I wouldn't worry about the maintenance costs of this car -- they're pretty reliable and don't have that much maintenance required.
