K40 Calibre radar detector/Laser diffuser system
Hello all
Considering purchasing and having this system installed in my 99 c2....
does anyone have any experience with it (good or bad)?
i have heard it is pretty amazing and the bluetooth allows for a stealth installation.

I'd be interested in some information, also. I googled it looking for reviews, but didn't find much.
I just want something that is hidden and out of the way- and just... works.

I used to be a big fan of K40, but I now use the escort pro series SRX, or SR7 Plus. If you look at speedzone.com you will find that the K40 laser defense/difuser is outdated and doesn't work against todays lasers. The Calibre may have been updated, but until it's proven by a 3rd party lab I'd think twice.

I don't get the benefit of the bluetooth application. You still need to run a wire to the front and back laser units for power, right? I guess that means that people are tapping power from other points in the car, making install easier? Does the bluetooth option just allow for easy placement of the control module?
I had the SRX installed on my Audi S4, it was a bloody disaster. Whatever you do, make sure you get someone that is VERY competent to install it.

The K40 and the escort mentioned above are built in detectors so they don't even know they are there. Prior to me owning this 996 I've had dash board detectors for about 10 years and have only been asked about them 1 time in DC and 3 times in VA(twice at national airport). I drive daily in DC with a dash detector in my SUV.

and the unit is on?
you have never been pulled over due to the detector detectors?
i think the k40 is supposed to be invisibile to the radar detector detectors.....

dips: the way it works is: the laser gets a ER4 code. At the same time you are lased and he gets the error code, you slow down and shut off the defuser. Then if they relase you it is too late.Works great. Out here they put the probes in the front and rear bumpers. The warning lights in the dash and the kill switch on the computer lever.

Yes, on all the time because the day you turn it off will be the day you get a speeding ticket.
I've never been pulled over for having a detector. At the airport officers that tell people to move their car saw it. That's when I used to have it dead center near the bottom of my windshield. The 3rd time in VA was when I sped up to merge because the young lady I was riding with waited late to give me the proper driving directions. I had the volume down on the detector listening to her. The officer gave me a warning ticket but as he was getting ready to walk away he says "Come on!" "I know that's not a radar detector". He asked me to turn it up then his partner began testing it from the patrol car. When they finished he told me to put it in my trunk.
One thing you should note about radar detectors in DC vs VA is that, DC they are 100% illegal to own in VA "they cannot be connected to a power source".

hmmmmmm
the place i am getting it installed at does a fancy installation where i can kill the pwoer from the brain of the unit. so if i get pulled over, i apparently have a switch that i flip that disconnects the unit form any power instantly.... i did not know they are entirely illegal in dc.
that is a little alarming.
