Post ABS

Is it me or the ABS comes into braking very quickly? I mean is this a safe thing so the ABS to kick in so early in the breaking?.

Example: Driving 30mph and step on a pretty dry road with mabye some lose material and Wham.

I find that in my '02 cab with PSM the ABS does come on more often than it did in my '99 C2 which just had ABS.
