Rear Spoiler Warning Lamp
I just purchased a 1999 996 Cabriolet. It has a TechArt Type II rear spoiler. The spoiler warning lamp on the console lights up at 75MPH and stays on until I turn off the motor.
Is there any way to easily disconnect the warning light?

Here is some info from the factory aerokit install instructions that should solve your problem.
1. Check to see whether there is a jumper connecting pin 2 (which is already jumped from pin 1) to pin 5 on plug X23 (previous spoiler connector) of the wiring harness (connection to the vehicle). Pin 5 is a ground and this tells the circuit that the spoiler IS extended (all the time). This causes the spoiler extended signal will be constantly present at the control module and the warning light of the retractable rear spoiler will not light (at speeds above 74mph).
2. The the warning light of the standard rear spoiler will still light up after the ignition is switched on. This warning light will go out after the vehicle moves off. This is normal on aerokit cars (like mine).

So Loren- if I plan to do the install myself with a fixed rear spoiler what do I need to do so when car reaches 75 mph it won't trigger the lite on the dash? Regards. Mike

Mike... see above.
If you buy an aerokit it comes with the small wire harness. If you buy Ruf, or Techart or ??? and it does not come with one, then I would buy one... it's just plug and go.

So if I order the wiring harness from PAG-what does the part look like? Do you simply plug in to the bottom connector and end of story? Thanks Loren. Mike

It has a 2 plugs on the deck lid, one for the purge fan and one for the engine compartment light. The other end plugs into the harness (as shown in the pic). Their are some cable clamps (2 or 3 I think), but you should be able to use your old ones.
This is simply a replacement for the cable that was previously there (that included the standard spoiler activation wires). Actually, it's a little thinner since those wires are not present.

Thanks Loren. I installed the aerokit harness from Porsche: 996 612 070 51. It fixed the problem. Anyone need advice or pics on this subject, please email me for information.

The harness was about $40. It took the dealer four days to get it to me.
The install was very easy except for one minor hitch. My rear center brake light hot wire was not installed correctly so I had to route the wire through the harness connector. When it was done it looked bone stock.
