waiting for germany to call me tomorrow. i'll keep you guys posted. their rep called me today, but he can't authorize a group buy. i should have more info by tomorrow afternoon. without pressing him, they really don't take a lot of money off for GB's. I'll go to work on him when I get him on the phone

what happened with the group buy? i might be in for a smarttop for a 2003 boxter. The wifes b-day is coming up.
i bought a smarttop and a remote top for my 996 last year. love em. and at the time they were cheeper. my guy at the garage said that the prices were going to go up, too. i should have bought all i needed last year.
so, Dog, what did you hear? what's the deal? did they come down on the price?

essentially we need to buy 10 units of each product to pull off the group. so you can't guy one or the other to get the discount. so essentially, when we reach ten on one product, the discount kicks in. same deal goes for both products. the discount is going to be $30 off. not exactly half price or anything, but better than nothing.

Okay. where do we stand right now? how many do we have so far? have you been posting in other forums?
I am not a member of any clubs, so I wouldn't be much help. But, maybe the others.....???

i haven't posted anywhere else. trying to gauge what kind of interest we have here first. bottom line is we need to get 10 of each product and we get $30 off. so basically if you buy both, you'll get $60 off your total. it's a lame discount if you ask me. 10% off isn't really that impressive for selling that many units. we can still do it if there are enough people.

You really need to chat with Sven. He is a really nice guy. Maybe he can tell you why it is going up in price so much from just a few months back. Is it costing them more to make these products or are they not selling very well and had to increase costs? I am confused. I thought they were pricey when I did the last group buy and got a pretty good deal but I saw that the cost has gone up again. Yes it is a great product but I think they are starting to get a bit overpriced.

Not sure if you checked out my group buy thread but the deal I got was:
$249 996 ($259 shipped)
$189 986 ($199 Shipped)
**S&H was $10 ($5 less than the $15 per unit they normally charge).**

Dell, how do you like the SmartTop now that you've used it for a while? Worth the effort? And moreover, is the RemoteTop a must also? Thanks dude.

Hey Edward! Love the top. Allows me the convenience of opening/closing the top with a single push of the button. As for the RemoteTop I think that is a waste. IMHO, you should have one or the other. And for me, I like the SmartTop better. But at the $249 price point I was able to make the purchase a little more justifiable but at $300 no frickin way. Personally I think this product should be no more than about $199 everyday price and about $175 group buy price.

The install was less than 5 mintues for me and requires NO mods whatsoever. No cutting, no splicing, no anything. True plug and play. And should I ever sell the car (which I won't) I could remove it and the car is as is before installed!
