Wacky idea : )
You know with the option of having park tronic for horizontal parking but what about adding sensors on the wheel side to avoid curb rash : ). Regards. Mike
You would be able to get such a system to work if you positioned the sensors down on the side skirts rather than the wheel.
However, I agree, they are ugly and didn't want them on my car.

Yeah don't like the look of the parktronic thing but I would imagine only one sensor is enough to sense potential curb danger and wouldn't be as noticeable compared to the parktronic one. I hate each time getting my darn wheels refinished- gotta send off wheels and $$$ and since I don't have two sets of rims I won't be able to drive it : (. Regards. Mike

I just scraped one of my wheels parking last night.
Not too bad just around part of the edge.
996FLT6 Where do you send them and how much does it cost for a refinish?

Well I have it done at a body shop near by and costs $179 per rim. I heard Wheel Enhancement is another one that you can send your wheels in for the refinish but don't know how much they run. If you like it locally then check with the body shops and see if they do that sorta thing. Regards. Mike

Curb sensors were sold 50 years ago (according to my automotive history book). They probably still exist (check J.C. Whitney catalog). They weren't electronic and they looked like crap, but they did go well with the steering wheel ****, fuzzy dice, useless chrome trim, and DA haircuts. In fact, you could get the curb feelers in highly polished chrome. They were just stiff springs that were attached from the bottom panel. They stuck out about 6" or so and would make a harmonic grating sound when contact with the curb was made. They probably showed some in the movie Grease.
Check out JC Whitney, or Pep Boys for "curb feelers". Very low tech, and very fuguly. Maybe if you get a group together someone will make them out of titanium <g>. I guess high tech would be ala 007 where they are recessed and spring out when you need them. You could tie the relay into the passenger door mirror drop down motor. Perry
