Any gains with just the BMC drop in filter?
hi guys noticed a good deal on a BMC filter, and wanted to know if there are any gains in terms of sound or performance, a search also mentioned some have a CEL issues with these filters...
bottom line are they worth it?
thanks

CAN O WORMS <------------------ You have opened it
Actually I have one and although i do not notice a power differenc I do notice a response difference and it does sound better.
That being said you wil hear all about messing up your MAF, Not trapping enough dirt, Aliens in your pants etc. with this issue. I like mine and have (knock on wood) never had a MAF issue.

The answer is "no". I have no doubt that some aftermarket air filters can flow more air. That's the claim, more air = more power. What they DON'T say is that their equation assumes your engine needs more air. If the engine needs 3000 cubic feet of air per minute (for example) and the OEM air filter provides twice that amount already then a super-zowie filter which flows even more will do exactly ... nothing. It will change the sound, you'll hear more induction noise and some associate the sound with more power. Porsche engines make a lot of power from relatively little displacement. Do you seriously think that Porsche would leave 5-10 HP on the table for the price of an air filter? A few other things to think about. If two filters have the same surface area and one flows more air, what does it tell you? Ans: it has to filter less. The 993 was shown to pick up a bit of power by drilling holes in the airbox. The airbox was restricted to keep sound levels down to meet Swiss regs which are veery tough. The air cooled engine was already close to the limit so Porsche fitted sound covers to the bottom (remove them if you have them) and strangled the airbox. This is NOT the case on the liquid cooled engines in the 98x, 99x and GT cars.

HAHA, i assumed that there would me multiple views and issues related... i did however just assume that there would be a slight throttle response gain, it seems like it's not worth the trouble nor $
thanks guys.
thanks guys.
