Default Need Coolant reservoir replaced

Hello,

Dealer says I need coolant reservoir replaced. Of course this is not covered under cpo.

02 carrera...any idea what this should cost? Dealer said 700. Seems high.

Thanks in advance!

$700 is way too nigh. Who's your dealer? I had mine replaced twice under warranty. I think the cost was around $250.

Call a bunch of other dealers nearby as well as a few here in Los Angeles to get some prices. It's amazing how much they vary.

The retail price on the tank (996.106.157.03) is $111.87 (as of Jan 2006). So the rest is labor.
A number folks have done this in a couple of hours.

I just found out that mine is bad as well. I have owned the CPO car for roughly 4 months and was told that the car was covered from bumper to bumper as if the car were brand new off the showroom floor. That is until the $722 coolant tank started to leak. Apparently, this is not covered.
What a f**ing joke! This was a $90k car when it was new. How does Porsche expect to get people to continue to buy these cars when they have such ****ty support after the sale?

That's weird. Mine was covered under the original warranty and also on my extended warranty. Regardless, it's NOT $722. It shouldn't cost you more than $250. $300 tops.

it is strange how it isn't covered... one would think, especially since it is a faulty component (they wouldn't be on their 6th one if it wasn't) they would cover it.. (yes i had to pay for a replacement as well) i dunno, you guys all know my opinion on porsche corporate.. i'll leave it at that..

I had the tank replaced on my 2000 C2 - cost was $600 at the dealer; out of warranty. My jaw dropped and I pleaded my case that this was a known problem that should be goodwilled. No go. Now, I will do (and enjoy) certain things like change oil and tranny fluid, replace brakes, even simple suspension setup, etc. But I did not have the patience or know-how to do that job. It's apparently 'complicated' given the location and lack of room.

Swapping the coolant tank takes a couple of hours max. from start to finish (refilling, bleeding systems, etc) for an inexperienced tech. Even at dealer labor rates, it would be hard to see a bill over $400 (tank, coolant etc included).

Replaced mine in June 2005; Cost tank $150 and labor another $200 at my local independant shop IMA Motorsport in Fairfax, VA. Shop around at differnt dealers and check with your local independant P-car shops. Will cost you 1/2 of what the dealer is trying to "milk" you for and should be covered by the independant shops's warranty. Mine is 1 yr for their work I think. In any event $700 is waay too much and why worry about going to an indpendant shop at this point if Porsche has already said that it won't cover it with CPO or goodwill it? Good luck!
