First oil change on my 02 C4 Cab was at 2500 miles. I also had my oil tested for impurities. I had some impurities in oil and plan to change again at 5K and have oil tested again. I'm just paranoid.
Getting the oil analyzed is very inexpensive.

Thanks for the info Don. Are you changing the filter also or just the oil?
It's a small world. I saw your signature and I spent my summers growing up in Dennisport and West Dennis beach.

I'll change the oil & filter at 5000-7500 mi, then at 12,000 mi, and then every 12,000 mi or yearly interval, which ever comes first.
I had Boxster for 4-1/2 years with 62,000 mi. I followed this regimen and had no problems with the engine.

If you search the oil change topic right, you ought to get a lot of threads on the topic. There seem to be plenty of people who favor all the interval options you mentioned, plus the option of changing at the once per year service (for those not driving many miles per year). Feel free to pick the interval that makes you most comfortable, so you'll sleep better. If I used my car only on the road, I think I'd feel comfortable with either the 5k interval or the 7.5k interval.

I think the real question is how hard do you drive your car and the enviroment which you live in. So, ask yourself these questions and then you should get an idea.
The 15k seems a bit much for me since I drive it hard and lot of stop and go driving. So, I am on the 7.5k interval but if you are driving mostly on the highway then go with longer.

For Ckl93...it is a small world. Yes, I do change the filter each time. Like I said, I'm paranoid + as you know down on the Cape the sand blows around a lot, and in fact did show up in my oil (silica), so I'm extra special careful about oil. I'm in Dennis and usually go to the beaches on the Bay side.

Three Wheelin'
![Question](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
This is going to be a question of mine too. In my boxster, I have changed the oil once per eyar (about 5k miles). Now that I am doing less miles and more track time, how often should I change it? How often would / do you change the oil in a cup car? Every race, 100 hours? In my speedboat I change the oil every 25 hours. Shold I look to do the same on the 996? Every 25 hours is probably 1500 miles? That would probably be twice a year for me, which seems very reasonable. Any insight? <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Ed,
My 2 cents...
I change my oil after every track event that puts more than 30 minutes on the engine. This is the most stress your oil (and car) can have and cheap insurance. After a track event your oil is not likely dirty it is weakened by the heat lessening it's ability to lubricate.
