Floor covering
I've seen some of you guys pictures with custom floor covering in the garage. Could you share some details of what you did? We tried painting the garage floor in the last house, but it didn't stick very well due to the sealant. So this time I'm considering putting down something. Someone mentioned tile, and then these two sites:

i have race deck, i dont have pix of it t hough.
it's very easy to install, took me 1/2 a day for a two car garage.
easy to mop clean.
but i am not sure you want to use jack or jack stand on it.

I used the Costco Moto floor tiles. Snap-lock industries makes them for Costco's private label. Same company as Race Deck. They do go on sale once or twice a year. The downside you only have 3 colors to choose from. You can only buy these online. The pattern on the tiles are different then race deck tiles. I am very happy with the flooring I used a foam padding used for laminate flooring under the tiles it keeps them from clacking against the concrete.

Sandoval, Your garage looks great.
gravedgr, Did you use Epoxy paint?
Here is the info on Costco: Motofloor® Garage Tiles
48pk Black & White $119.99 Item # 883026 Shipping & Handling: $13.20
A standard one car garage will require approximately 4 boxes($479.96) of MotoFloor flooring and a standard two car garage will require approximately 8 boxes ($959.92) of flooring.
Here is the info from Lowe's on Epoxy:
Quikrete® Epoxy Garage Floor Coating Kit Item #: 224204 Model: 20050027022 $62.00

I've been checking out flooring. The example above looks great, but where's all the junk? The 17 bikes, lawnmower, trailer hitch, kid's soccer goal, etc.?
Anyway, I've been researching this stuff a little lately. One thing I've found is that the professional type of epoxy flooring is WAY different than the DIY. I watched them do a floor not too long ago. They prep the floor chemically, then use a big grinder-like machine to smooth the surface, and also grind between coats of the flooring material. The result is like a commercial finish. The advantage of the epoxy like finish is that cleaning is really easy; the finish actually goes up the side wall a few inches, and the steps to the house too, so there are no cracks or crannies for dirt or water to hide out in.
The disadvantage to epoxy is that you can't do a cool checkerboard pattern like
SANDOVAL did above. About all you can do is a speckled pattern. I think I'm going to use one of the pro companies, Premier Garage (not endorsing!) because they have a pretty nice package overall to do the floor, walls, and cabinetry. I'm also going to have them do the floors in the mechanical rooms in my basement to dress that up a bit.

Sandoval,
Your garage and floor look awesome. I really like the idea of using brick for part of the interior walls. I have the Racedeck in my garage and love it. The only thing I didn't like about the racedeck was the hollow sound when you walk on it. Your idea of putting the pad underneath is awesome. Thanks for the info.
Also if any of you guys want Racedeck for your garage I sell it. I can put together a group buy for anyone interested. It won't be as cheap as the Costco flooring but there are differences in the two. You guys let me know if there is interest.

Race Car
Well, I have gon thru this and beings as I was not as able to spend big bucks on my floor I went with VCT tiles. I got mine at Home epot for .74 a square foot. My whole garage cost about $500 to do including glue.
My floor has been down almost 2 years and the only issue is that in a few places I did not let the glue set up long enough and the tiles slipped. When it says let glue cure for 45 min, do it
The INSPECTOR checking things out.....

Great garages.
One thing to consider if you work on your own car is that a bright grey floor both reflects light (under the car) and is much easier to find the parts you dropped on. That's why nearly all shops and race shops go that way. Not as fun, but maybe a little more useful.

Chris - I don't recall if it was epoxy paint or not, but my guess is not. We got it at Home Depot. They sold a two-part concrete paint kit and a just a concrete paint. We went cheap as we didn't plan to stay there long and of course, you get what you pay for.
Seth - nice looking floor, and if anyone else is interested in a group buy I wouldn't mind at least getting a quote. Since you're just up the road from us, maybe we could stop by one day and check it out if you don't mind.

I did the same as Tim, Home Depot but made bigger squares by putting 4 of the same color together. Don't try to use a jack or stands directly on the floor, I had some 18"x 18" diamond plate cut to put under the jack and stands.
