Ordering C4S - leather interior question
I am newly registered on rennlist but I have been reading the boards for the last couple of weeks, very helpful to read such good advice, especially to oshixx's questions. I owned a 91 C2 from 91 to 94, but I sold it because I could not deal with the hassle of garaging the car in NYC. Now I am ordering a new C4S and I am very excited. One question I can not figure out, the car comes with full leather interior as standard, is the full leather package an incremental option that covers parts of the interior not covered by the standard leather package?
The C4S standard leather package is NOT the full leather package listed in the options. The C4S standard leather does NOT include leather sunvisors (bummer), nor leather covers for the speakers nor air vents (who'd want those?). It does include the alcantara headliner, steering wheel, dashboard, shifter, handbrake, doors, full seats, ignition switch.... I forget what else. The only one that bums me out is the sunvisor. Not so bummed out that I'd pay @$500 to get the aftermarket leather ones. Don't quite know whether you can add a full leather option on top of the C4S leather and at what cost. Maybe you can ask your dealer and let us know.
I am certainly not at the point of being able to answer any questions here. So, I do not know the answer to your question, but it is an interesting one.
Just curious what other options you may be considering? Currently, I am settled on the Lumbar Drivers Seat, the Brake/Shift Carbon/Aluminum, and Headrests w/Porsche Crest.
Still trying to decide on the floor mats and the rear center console in carbon fiber. I am a little confused about the wheel center set and not sure if it is compatible with the C4S wheels.
Further, I would really like to know what the "S" indicates.

Porsche wheel center crests came with my C4S as an option. Among the many options, most of which are appearance-oriented and not going to functionally change the car, you may want to consider the auto-dimming rear view mirror. Mine does not have it and I may add it. The car is low enough to be directly in the headlight line of most SUV's, trucks, etc. Colored seat belts are worth considering among the other interior options mentioned in an ealier post to your questions. You can add some things, such as the CF rear center console for less than factory prices, but some factory appearance options are worth the price. Carnewal.com has original Porsche bits for great prices.
The wheel center crests are compatible with the C4S wheels. Popped right in with mine. Supposedly compatible with ANY Porsche wheel.
Don't like the auto-dimming mirrors that's in my other cars. Would dim if there was any interior light source, such as my navigator reading the map. Glad it didn't come with any of the option packages I got in the C4S. Easy enough to flick the switch when in traffic at night.

Thanks Palting. oshixx, I am thinking seal gray or arctic silver, heated seats, advanced technic package, and full leather steering wheel including airbag cover. I am waiting until the 2003 options are officially available, I understand from other posts that the packages may be unbundled, so I may go for the litronic headlamps, and consider an aftermarket replacement for the stereo system. However the Bose sounded pretty good to me, I am not a serious audiophile. I may also go for some of the cosmetic options, but I am not sure if they are worth it.

auto dimming mirrors on c4s are a great option because you can turn the dimming off when you want. in my experience this is a unique feature not available in mercedes, bmw or audi. at dusk auto dimming is a hassle otherwise but i like it at nite on the interstates.
i also like winshield sensors for wipers-a nice feature for drizzly days common in spring and summer in the northeast.
advance tech package is great. i'm completely satisfied with the bose sound system--a huge improvement from previous years! i'm not willing to put in the time tinkering with after market sound systems.
i would advise getting supple leather-a cheap but comfotable option. imo lumbar support is gilding the lily in the great seats already included but they certainly don't hurt!
frankly all of these options pale beside the pleasure of driving the c4s. it is so flexible and sure footed it never puts a foot wrong! just get one asap- the devil with options! if you like the color you'll love the car! unlike the c2, it comes with most desirable options standard.
as for leather sun visors, i'm glad i don't have them because the leather would get very dirty from being handled so much and would fade quickly from so much sun! i guess they'd feel nice while they lasted though!
good luck!

i agree the heated seats are great! imo much more important than lumbar support.

Since we are talking about options, I think the full carbon fiber package is a nice touch. I thought it was a little too much when I first saw it. But now that I've had the car for a while and gotten into the "Porsche, there is no substitute" feeling, I think it complements the high tech-high performance ambiance of the C4S driving experience, particularly in the all black interior.
You can get a better sound system than the Bose. However, mine came as part of the package, and I'm happy enough with it not to change it. You may be able to unbundle it for MY 2003, and use the money for a better aftermarket unit.
Heated seats. The dealer dissuaded me. He thought it was a good idea on cabs, or if I was going to drive the car extensively in the winter. Took his advice and have not regretted it. The lumbar support sounds like a good idea. Don't have it, so can't comment on it.
Definitely get the litronic/Bi-Xenons.
Tires. All the Porsches coming into our local dealership have P-Zeros. Good tires. However, have read where others are coming in with Contis. Still good, but not as good, IMHO.
I do agree that any and all these options absolutely pale in comparison with the simple experience of driving this car. Have already taken it up to 170 mph several times and autocrossed it once. Am now checking out DE courses and tracks. Anybody buying these cars should definitely plan on DE as part of the "option" package. This is one FUN car!!

The C4S is the most amazing handling car I have driven. I cannot believe the speed I am taking curves and corners and on the highway it's quite stable at absurd speeds.
I think the Bose system is excellent. No, you couldn't mix or engineer music on it but if your concentrating on the music that much then I doubt one spending enough attention to the road.
I have the rear center console painted silver and supple leather on my artic silver/black C4S. I also lowered the car which is a big improvement in looks. ...also added the clear side markers.

Jim Sloves, can you post some pictures of a lowered C4S. I bet it looks amazing. How many inches? And which springs, etc.?
Please do inform of the details. And post those pictures for the many of us who "only" have C2 Coupes.
