Anyone tell me what information my 01 cab records and at what intervals? <img src="graemlins/burnout.gif" border="0" alt="[burnout]" />

Many cars now record max rpm /speed at certain vehicle mileage on either cont basis or perhaps prev 60 secs , supposedly to enhance crash data/air bag performance in the real world. Some law enforcement agencies are getting wise to this and starting to supoena " black box" info against manufacturers wishes.
Here in Bay Area , if you use those auto toll transponders ( the ones you velcro to windshield) on the bridges , they are now tracking your movement throughout the area by sensors on all the freeways , supposedly to get better real time freeway speeds and to analyze traffic patterns. They aren't tracking individual serial numbers , but I can imagine a secretive federal law enforcement agency " hacking" it and following someone's every movement. OTOH, if you keep your cell phone on or car has Tele-Aid /On-Star , it's already being done.

Question

Last I heard the car records max rpm and # of times it hits the limiter, but I'm not sure about time verses rpm kind of stuff.

Certain GM cars are the ones with the time/mileage/rpm/speed "black box" recorders.

I thought Corvette also has similar black boxes that record max revs and much more.

Regards.
