Should I keep a painted 996?
Hi all,
i just got this 02 996 cabrio -- really nice, drives well, but for some reason the entire car was been painted. dealer ppi thinks the frame/mechanicals are fine and thinks it may have been keyed. what do you guys think? should i keep it?
Thanks

ezou,
your judgement is better than anyone else here since no one can see it except you. And no one know yuor taste better than yourself.
One advantage is that you can repaint it anytime without affraid to lose the original paint.
Good luck

When it comes time to sell this car, you may be asked why the car was painted. Be prepared for that type of question with documentation from the dealer or body shop that did the PPI (since the repaint didn't happen in your possession).
Repainted cars (especially such new cars) will need a good reason for the repaint since Porsche paint is so robust. However, if you plan to keep the car for some time, then the repaint is no big deal. I agree with rnln that the second time around won't be a big deal if another repaint is needed.
If the car looks good to your eye, keep it and enjoy it.

If there are no signs of body damage and it passes the magnet test I would just figure that it had been keyed and be happy with that explanation (and the car) and just give that out at the time of resale...
