Smile Source for painted console??

I have a 2000 Boxster S and am looking for a source from which to purchase a painted center console (the one between the seats). Any one know of a source for these that can either be supplied already painted to match the exterior body color or come primed and ready to be painted? Thanks for the help. Scott

Check around your local area for wrecked Porsches. Find a Porsche aware body shop who might be able to steer you toward one.

Other options are to purchase it through a dealer using the PCA $100 off certificate, then have a local Porsche aware body shop do the paintwork.

Find a shop that has done this before. Our plug shop has been doing the plugs (obviously), rear logos, and rear bumperettes for a long time, and trust me when I say - you want to have a very experienced paint guru doing this.

I would also suggest having it done locally where your car can be done on the premises. The paint match is done first by paint code, second by eye. The painter needs to see the car if it's important for you to have the right match, though it's not as critical as if it were a fender.

Scott,

I went thru this recently with my 02 996. I bought a finished piece from www.nrauto.com.

web page

Couple of caveats: At first they shipped me the wrong model year part, but they quickly sent me the correct one. Second: the finish on the piece is nice, but not actually the same as the Porsche techquipement piece. Third: was kind of pricy. I think about $750 + core.

Finally, I talked to 2 paint shops that did them before. They have to sand and prep them well so the paint sticks without blemishes and chipping. I was quoted about $150 for painting alone.

Good luck!

I stopped during a visit to By Design in LA (www.e-bydesign.com) and talked with Daniel Bardavid 310 559 9670 and he told me that he would do an arctic silver one for my 996 for $300. Give him a call and see if I heard him right.

STRSHP, thanks that is what I was looking for. Daniel at By Design can supply the part and paint it to match my car. Price was $500 if no core and I went that route.
