For track use, would you use Kendall GT-1 20W50, a mineral based oil, or Mobil 1 15W50, a synthetic oil, or Castrol RS 10W60, a synthetic oil, and why? And for street use which one?

It may not matter to you, but the only mineral oil approved by Porsche for a 996 was Exxon/Superflow Supreme Special 15W-40. When the new list came out last year it was off the list and only a few fully synthetic oils are now approved. The highest viscosity approved oil is Castrol 5W-50.
The Boxster people I know who track their car use Mobil One 15W-50, and a local shop which races GT3s also uses it. But it is no longer on the list. Jeff

Sometimes, perhaps, of course, not in the instance of Porsche, approval of oils for street use has quite something to do with gas mileage and, frankly, politics. I wonder, however, if, assuming you change oil after every track event, the Kendall might not provide better protection in racing conditions - particularly for the camshafts.
