sport exhaust help
Someone on this board mentioned that the factory sport exhaust system on the '03 cars has an automatic overide between 25-45 mph which switches it to quiet mode at these speeds. If this is the case, is there a hack to eliminate this overide? Appreciate any help on this subject.

Recently picked up a new '03 C4 Cab that I had ordered back in July w/ sport exhaust. Took the posts from this board re: jumpering around relay, complete w/ pictures, to the dealer and discussed w/ service manager prior to delivery. He promised to take a look at it; when I picked the car up, he said they had modified the system by "simply disconnecting a wire". All I know is, system sounds great, there is no automatic cut-out, and the dash switch works perfectly. I know what you're thinkin'- but everything else works perfectly too, so maybe it's not that complex (he said hopefully).

FWIW, Didn't get my "sport Ex" as I had ordered from factory ( thank the Lord) back this time last year, so dealer installed w/o this switching thingy folks are talking about. It's just a nice throaty exhaust..all the time. No "noise pollution",just sounds like the sports car that it was supposed to be.
Can someone tell me why they comlicate a good 'ole
muffler? Is this a California or NYC noise police issue?

To remove the factory cut-out but allow the switch to work:
1) Remove the fuse panel cover and the carpet cover itself by removing four screws. Release the relay carrier above the fuse panel by releasing a clip on the left and a 10mm nut on the right.
2) Pull it down so you can rotate it around to see the back. This pic shows position 23.
3) From the back of the relay carrier, remove the relay receptacle from position #23 (the "23" is printed in raised letters on the front side of the relay carrier) by pressing in on two little fingers that hold the receptacle into the carrier.
Now look for the four-position jumper. There are two gray connectors there. One has two two-position jumpers and the other has one four-position jumper. You want to pull that one out of it's black plastic holder, and then remove the four-position metal jumper.
Put it back together and you are all set!
Cheers,
Ken

yes and yes, a friend of mine with an 02 recently did just that - sports exhaust now always on without cutout or switch.

THANKS FOR THE HELP!! IT LOOKS PRETTY EASY. SPOKE TO MY DEALER TODAY AS WELL, AND HE SEEMS TO THINK THE 2003 MODELS HAVE ELIMINATED THE CUTOUT AT MID SPEED.

This a copy of my previous post on this subject:===C4FDR's Post===================
I had the Porsche Sport Exhaust installed with some modifications. The wiring was installed as designed, however the control was unplugged and a switch and relay was wired in that allows me to control the exhaust. The switch is a PSM switch in the panel where the heated seat switches go. I turn on the ignition switch and if the orange light in the switch is illuminated I'm in the Sport Exhaust mode, hit the switch and I'm in the quiet mode.
In the sport mode the car roars specially when driving aggressively past 90 mph. At 140 mph it really roars. I'm very happy with the sound improvement.
I'm considering headers next.
I plan to Dyno it soon in both modes.
Update to the above post:
Having the exhaust switchable is useful when roaring past a CHP ticketing someone on the roadside. I switched the exhaust to the quiet mode before a came up on the CHP and he didn't look up as I passed. Also great when driving in my neighborhood in the early or late hours.
I have ordered the Porsche 03 Sport Exhaust switch to see I can replace the PSM switch used as described above.
