Trailer
Gonna get a trailer to take the O2C2 to the track. Want to keep the miles off since it will still be stock.
What should I look for in an uncovered, car only trailer? Heard I should avoid bolted together since they will start squeaking after a while. I guess a removeable tire-holder rack would be a great idea. Do I need to think about anything else??? I'm thinking about aluminum to keep weight down. I'll be pulling it with a Silverado, and would like to keep the weight to about 4,000 lbs ( 3,000 car, 800-1,000 trailer with no other items loaded. Total load should be under 5,000 lbs).
Give me knowledge!!

I have a steel open trailer with tire rack at the front of the trailer.
One problem with the tire rack just above the front of the trailer is that dirt from the tires will fall off onto your 996's body. Especially when raining.
I put my track tires in my tow vehicle.

An option that you may not have thought of was to have a tire trailer for your 996.
I have no ties to the company...but you migh see thre ads in the Pano...Southsport makes a trailer and hitches for several kinds of porsches.
I had one for my 88 911 and have one for my 2000 996. They work great, I got the larger of the two models with will let you hold 5 tires. (2) 245-35x18 and (3) 285-30x18. It also has a large cargo box made of diamond plate that easy holds fullsize floor jack, stands, and lots of other goodies. Box is as wide as the 5 tires and is about 2 feet (maybe 2.5) tall and about 2 feet deep. Very easy to pull with your car...very very stable (even at speeds above 120MPH ....).
Just a thought...keeps my car clean and I never have to worry about getting a flat. I'm ready.

Armando, were you just testing the trailer at 120 mph???? How long were you at 120 mph??? And now the real question.... Were you carrying your street tires, or track tires in the trailer when you were doing 120 mph???
An electric winch comes in handy if you wind up with drive train problems, are loading alone, or find yourself beating up the clutch on the ramps. It also provides an extra and easy front tie-down.
I'd look carefully for the simplest tie-downs that will work on your car. Getting dirty and sweaty before and after your track time fighting with chains or straps lowers the fun quotient.
Race cars often have built-in attachment points. Have you looked for tie-down points on your car? You might want to check-out how other guys at the track do it. AS

I haven't checked on the P-car, but the BMV has attachment fixtures built into the jack pad fixtures. A key type piece fits into the hole and you can cinch down the attached strap. Works neat and keeps you from having to use your suspension parts.
I was thinking about saving money by using cinder blocks piled onto the car to keep it from sliding off the trailer. I was gonna paint them gray, to match, or maybe color coordinate them. I think regular bricks would be too small.

Stem, Many in our club use aluminum trailers. They are light, don't rust and trailer very well. I just returned from a 600 mile round trip to Road America pulling my 996 on a Aluma open trailer with a Grand Cherokee. I put several thousand miles a year on this combo and it works great. Your truck would be even better.
As far as tie downs, you'll probably need to use staps through your wheels. There really isn't any other good method that I've found.

I was not just testing the trailer. But that speed was not kept up for a long time, maybe 3-4 min. The average speed for me going up to the track is in the mid 80's tire trailer is just fine. I was even very surprised as to how well it takes sweepers. I think the trick is that has ind. Suspension. Not a fix rod.
But I do have to agree, trailering your car to the track will make you 2-3 sec faster. Becasue you know you don't have to drive it home. In my case, it keeps me honest (and sane).
Best story I haad was some guy pulled up to a light next to me while I had the trailer in back. He looks over trying to get me to race him.... I rolled down my window and said....very brave of you trying to race a car towing a trailer...but what will your girl friend think if I spank you tire trailer and all....(I had no fear..I think my trailer was worth more than his car....it was in better shape that his car...either case...the light turned green....at the next light I asked him if my brake lights on the trailer were working ok
