Talking Largest tire size for turbo look rims on 996c2?

I am going to replace the tires on my car and I wanted to know what the largest size I can put on the rims from and back without rubbing etc. I have the factory turbo look rims, which I believe are a 10" in back? What size can I run in front as well as back? I heard that you can go up to about a 285 in the rear on this rim??? What about fronts? Please let me know. Also what are the best tires that actually last now adays? I have heard some interesting things about the new toyo t1s? Other than that I was thinking so3's as the cups won't last nearly enough and you have to heat them up too much for street so I am told for the compound. Thanks.!

It depends on your wheel size and year. 17" or 18" '99-'01 18" had a 7.5" wide front wheel. Virtually everyone I've talked with say to stick with the 225/40 with that rim and with the 8.0" wide that was available '02- . As for the rears, most people would suggest the 285/30 on an 10x18.

I don't know if the rears are 10 but was told that the car is a 99 with the stock optioned 18" turbo look rims. So I guess the question is, is how wide are the rims, and what size can fit? 285 sound about right and were what I figured for. and I guess that I do have the 7.5 fronts so I will just stick with the 225's in the front unless someone has any experience with larger sizes working? Thanks.

In which case, I would stick with 225/40 and 285/30.

HI Spr,

Well I had the same wheels as you and I had 295,30,18 on the back. BUT and a big BUT, I had a problem with a noise on the left rear. When to my local dealer and then found that the wheel was buckled. Ok I thought not a issue just change it. Well 3 months later the dealer came back for the forth time and said that these wheels are slightly different is size than the newer ones. So it could not get a replacement from Porsche Germany and I would have to replace both back wheels with the new size. I am note sure what the new size is but I think it is about ½ inch smaller. Any how the moral of this story is, be very careful with these wheels as it will cost big time to replace.

Cheers

Yeah as Viken has noted and my friend stated as well the new 02 rims that are lighter than even the hollow spokes have the advantage of being wider and can accomodate a larger tire, especially in the front as it is an 8" instead of 7.5" I guess. I believe that the rears are the same width but dunno. I am going to go with the size Viken suggested and will have fun. The only decision now is what tire to run. I can't decide between the so3's or the asimetrico rossos. Any thoughts between the two anyone? There are asimetricos on the front also. Thanks.
