Ally tells me, "The part is available as a stand alone item from the Techequipment brochure." But from the TSB Loren sent me dated 3/7/00, it says that the kit is not available seperatly, it is part of the Child Seat kit, and it must be enabled w/the PST2. It does give P/N 996 803 083 01.
"After the deactivation device has been installed and enabled, the passenger side airbags are deactivated by inserting the belt tongue from the child seat into the belt lock on the cross bar."
I have a PDF of the installation instructions. If anyone is interested in it e-mail me.
Does anyone else have any info?

Deactivation bar is available for ~$100 at Carnewal. You must still have someone use the hammer to set the car computer to recognize the bar. I then question if there is any reason to have the bar or just short the connection under the seat? I doubt there is any circuitry in the beltbuckle. It is in the case of an airbag shorting switch that the impedence of the system is tested. But this is my non-studied opinion, does anyone know? I intend to have the computer enabled and find out. I have locate a service, just need time during the week to get over there and have it done. At the same time I want to get the review mirror to tilt down in reverse which I understand is another hammer deal. Mine does not do this now on a 00 996. I am correct this option can be turned on?

Bosch hammer is for the older cars - they now use the PST2. There is a 2 wire connector under the passenger side. You jump these wires with the correct resistor then use the PST2 to tell the car the bar is "installed." But, no dealer is going to do this for you unless the bar is in fact installed.
You need memory seats to do the mirror dip thing. Jeff

You are right of course. I knew PST2 but could not remember at the time. I figured the hammer was close enough.
Dealers are not the only ones with the PST2.
I do have memory seats so I guess if I have it set the mirror tilt will work.
Thanks for the input.

Yes at www.carnewal.com. Look under upgrades I believe and the airbag deactivation device is acutally the bar and seatbelt connector. About $100.

Do you need the male buckle from a Porsche Child seat too?
