Question Suspension Upgrade on GT3???

I ordered a GT3 and was wondering what I can do to stiffen the suspension. I read a report from someone that already received (in Europe) and tracked their GT3 and complained that it was somewhat soft. I raced all the way up to Formula 3 and Atlantics, about 10+ years ago, and before that I raced karts, therefore I like my cars REALLY stiff. As far as lowering the car I don't want it lower than 3" inches or 7.5 cm off the ground. I drive a Z06 Corvette and it sits about 3.5 inches off the ground and its stiff as a board, I love that! Any suggestions?

MJ - There will be factory racing springs available from Porsche Motorsports (from the Cup and RS cars). They'll replace the standard springs easily on the coilovers. May want to change the shocks too though...

The Cup car springs are around 1200 lbs in front and over 1300 lbs in the rear, which is way too stiff for street use, IMHO. You may want to try something around 650 in front and 800 in the rear. I ran that combo on my 996 and it was great on the track and tolerable on the street. If you keep the spring height the same, it shouldn't affect the ground clearance and you can adjust the ride height through the spring perches anyway.

Karl,

What springs did you use?

MJ,

I used Hypercoils on my 996 but would probably use H&Rs if I was doing the GT3 because that's what the Cup cars run.

Another option is to use progressive springs. I've seen this set-up on race cars for bumpy tracks. They use a short "helper" spring that is soft and short. The helper is stacked on top of the main spring which is very stiff. The helper spring absorbs the bumps without disturbing the car and the main spring provides stiffness needed when the car tries to compress under heavy braking or cornering. It is tricky to get the right combination of helper to main, so I would only do this if you have a very good suspension shop to work with.

Thank you Karl, I think I'll go with the H&R Springs with the same shocks it comes with. This should improve my handling.

Stick with the parts from the cup car. And keep in mind what is stiff on the street will always feel softer on the track.
