Well, I do not have a service manual. That's larger than a 17mm on the inside.

Tell me if this sounds right.....I'll assume that youe would be loosen the nut on the bottom (an open-end would work there).....then use the socket on top to snug it and probably keeping track of # of turns or whatever. Unfortunately, then you really don't know where you are at until you put the top on and have a look-see on fit.....and may have to remove and go through process again.
