02 2nd gear shift problem
I have 900 miles on my 02 C2 996. 2nd gear has popped out into neutral 3 times. This first time I thought I imagined it, the second time I thought I didn't engage into 2nd gear good enough, and the third time I was cruising in 2nd gear for about 3 minutes while looking at X-mas lights in our neighborhood. Is this something that will go away after break in period or is this something serious? Any thoughts?

Have a 99 C2 that began to pop out of first and second gear. I am now a happy owner of a new transmission at Porsche's expense or should I say as a result of their recognition of the problem and their willingness to sort it out.

Well, here's my update! I took my car to the shop this morning. Bottom line is that I have a new transmission on order.
Now I am a waiter once again
Thanks to all that gave input.

The 996 , even Turbos , seem to be having synchro problems causing difficulty " clicking" into gear or staying engaged in that gear. Are the synchros breaking up due to material quality?

The new transmission seems to be holding up quite well. The fact that I can down shift it into first without being at a complete and total stop and not having it release itself from first and second are really nice. The dealership first said first gear synchos, but after they had it for a day or two, decided to do the replacement.
The only down side is, even after my direct request, they did not replace the clutch. They thought Porsche might pay for it, since the car had 21K on it, but they didn't since it was deemed normal wear. The bummer was that for the price of parts, I could have had a new clutch since the labor was included. Sometimes I wonder what has happened to customer service.

It's fixed! I got a call this morning, 2 days earlier than expected. I picked it up at lunchtime and drove it in stop & go traffic. It now shifts tighter and more precise.
I will have to give my dealer high marks for their overall customer service. All transactions were pretty seamless, the calls were prompt and the service manager apologized profusely that a problem such as this ocurred.
Only time will tell if any other problems arise. So far, I have no sqeaks or rattles that have been reported by others.
Thanks to all for your input. Glad your replacement transmission is doing well, STRSHP.
