Another Fair Price Question
I am looking to buy my first 911. I posted on the 964 Forum in November, while considering a 1990 C4. In response, I was basically told to be patient with the buying decision and to drive as many cars as possible. Great advice! I subsequently drove a mixture of 964s and 993s...and then a 996, which made my personal 964/993/996 decision an easy one.
So my questions are:
1. The asking price for a 2000 C2 coup is $64,500 (down from $69K+) and I have countered with $61,500. Mirage metallic on black. Local owner. The significant options are full leather, 18" wheels, Hi-Fi, Litronic headlights, CD stacker, alum. instrument dials and stainless pipes. Does $61,500 strike you as a fair price if I can get it? I am trying to take advantage of the "buyer's market" I have been reading about and also be realistic about price in my market. Not such a simple task.
2. I live in rainy Seattle. I will use the C2 as a daily driver. I am happy with all of the options except no limited slip. Given the often wet driving conditions here, should I await another car with limited slip or hold out for a C4? My concern is from a general safety standpoint, as opposed to wanting to push the car as hard a possible. After searching the archives, the majority view seems to be that the "plain" C2 will do fine under normal driving conditions (albeit wet), granted that I would be foregoing additional high end performance features. Any new or different views?
Thanks in advance.
Kurt

Hi Kurt.
I'd highly recommend getting a car with PSM. This will take care of you in the rain if you don't want to pony up the dough for the C4.
$64.5k is WAY, WAY, WAY high in this market! Did I say WAY? I don't care if it's "down from" $1 mil!

BTW, you didn't post the mileage. That said, it would have to be an awfully special 00 C2, equipped nicely with low miles for me to justify more than about $60k in this market.

You seem to have a wealth of knowledge about the fair market values of used 996 Porsches..... I just sold a 964 C2 and a new '01 Boxster S, the latter didn't work for me, although new and sold with 921 miles.... enroute to the left coast.
I am looking for a late model 993 or a '99 or'00 996.... for very limited weekend use... I've made a few offers on the 993 model and I was presented two '99 996 models to consider by a dealer today.... I need some help with the model and pricing.... Would you be willing to contact me via e-mail?

Hi Berkley:
I e-mailed you a list of all the 99 coupes sold at the Florida Auto Auction over the last 4 weeks. Since I didn't save it, please post that list here for others who might be interested.

61.5K is very high. A) I was offered a 2002 model C2 Coupe list $77.5 for 70K. B) I wound up buying a 2000 C2 Coupe ( see my post on the Brumos B59 for the option list) whose orginal list was 95K+ with a 3 week old sport exhaust upgrade for 59.9. I'd say you're over-paying.
