damn, you should've just traded it in early for the gt3

clutch - 500
flywheel - 800
plugs - 200
labour @ 125/hour (CA rates, hope LV/NV has lower rates) 16-20 hours = 2000~2500
-------------
4000 -> YIKES!

do i win?

New clutch kit installed
New flywheel (THESE SUCKERS ARE NOT CHEAP!)
New seals/bolts/etc.
New spark plugs and polybelt (since I was going to do the 60K service anyway)

Anybody care to guess to total bill??? Let's just say Christmas is gonna take a hit this year

Dell, that absolutely stinks. But, at the very least, I promise you that the new clutch will fee phenomenal when you get back in the car. Night and day difference.

Oh yeah, my guess? $3200.

Carlos.......GT3 is still on the way but in the spring (and we are going to keep the 996CAB since the wife wants us to each have our own track day cars!)

Everybody else......I'll keep the suspense from you............

GRAND TOTAL?
$2600

Gotta love the honest indy shops that aren'tout to rape you! FYI....our local indy is owned by our PCA region president. Great guy as well.

I win, cuz Dell didn't add in the $200 in tread loss to his tires that will result from him testing out the new clutch.

Actually I had 96K miles on my 98 Boxster. I am a New Yorker with lots of driving on the LIE. Enought said. I get on my cars a good deal, but drive like I've got raw eggs between my feet and the pedals! It does depend on how you mate the components together, and I think also on the way it was assembled from the factory.

$hit Dell, that $uck$ $o bad. $ee, if you had $ent me your P$E, only the clutch would be gone. Look at that, even my keyboard feel$ bad for ya... it'$ changing all of the "S" to "$"

Seriously, I feel bad for you. It is always a shock when your hear "well, there's something else..." when your on the phone with the repair shop. It does, however, appear that you are taking it in stride.

Have to take it in stride. Why? Still feel very fortunate to own such a fantastic car. And the grand scheme of things, what is $2500 on a car that cost damn near $100K? Sure, some will say "I'd never own a porsche out of warranty" (which doesn't aply to wear items anyway) or "that is just so expensive to fix." But realistically, I had all that work done for $2500 and I have 57K miles on the car now. Not to mention the wife had some bad clutch habits to learn away. Oh yeah, and there is all those track days. And every time we go to the track it counts twice since we BOTH track the car!

I still feel like a kid in a candy store every time I get behind the wheel........and that my friend is worth the price of admission! Nothing like a Porsche 911 to provide therapy ON the drive home I didn't even realize I just spent $2500 on her. Just felt one with her again

I think $2,600 is very reasonable for what you had done. I didn't realize this was an independant, which is why I guessed $4,800.

The clutch alone is close to $2,000 at a Porsche dealer.
