NSX vs. Porsche

NSX vs. Porsche
A week ago I went to the Porsche dealership to buy a loaded 01 C2 Coupe; my 2nd P car. There was a 2000 NSX parked to it. Red and Tan 3.2 I sat in it and drove it. I sat in the C2 and drove it and said, "GEE there wasn't much difference between the C2 and my company car"- a Ford Tauraus. I immediately bought the NSX. Florida's I-4 is my daily work commute. I was at the normal fast lane speed of 80 mph when a Mustang GT started playing tag. I down shifted to 3rd and took it to 8000RPM's and up to 6th gear and cruised at 140mph. The NSX was on rails. Off ramps at 90 to 120mph are cake! Everyone wants to get it on when they see it. Kids faces light up at red lights. People stare at it at it and visit it in the parking lot. That never happened with my Porsche. Porsche is awesome but the NSX is another world. I now tell people that I bought a HONDA! Rennlist member, too!

i heard that "puerto rican low riders" (can of freon and hammer required) ride on rails too. BTW, how many world class rally, 24 hour, Le Mans, Nurburgring records etc, etc have NSXs won. My memory fails me.

I know there are a lot of different NSX's out there, some that perform better than others, but this comparison is just silly.
While the C2 is not brand spanking new in terms of interior design, it is lightyears ahead of a "company car" interior and newer than the NSX which is long overdue for an interior overhaul, heck an exterior overhaul as well.
I've "outgunned" an NSX on the highway in an automatic G35 coupe, granted it was probably one fo the earlier models, but still that means you can't lump all NSX's together, nor could you do the same with all 911's.
The NSX is a fine automobile but in my opinion (and everyone has one of those right?) it isn't as "solid" in terms of feel as compared to a 996. Are they fast? Sure. Do they win at LeMans? No way.
As far as "real world" track experience, I had no problem turning better times at HPT in my Boxster S (modified) than two different NSX's (two different occasions). Does that mean a Boxster S is a better car than an NSX? No, it could mean I was a better driver, who knows. Personally, I'm glad the NSX owners took their car to the track and exercised them a bit.
Given its Honda lineage, you'll find NSX's getting "riced out" these days, coffee can exhausts, blinking valve stems, decals, whatever, something I've yet to see on a 996 unless you count Kevin Buckler's Racers Group window decal as "ricing-out" a 996. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
You'll find a lot of car owners feel the need to "justify" the purchase of their new car, often times by bashing something they didn't buy. Rather than comparing a C2 to a company car perhaps he should have told us about the advantages (if any) of the NSX vs. the 996? Something where we could have an intelligent discussion about spring rates, dampening, turn-in, whatever....
BTW, noticed he went to buy a loaded 01 C2 Coupe, considering that you can get those for around $55-65K now, which is about the price of a 2000 NSX, in fact the NSX may be a bit lower depending on how each is optioned out. Although with the 2000 NSX he gets the older body style which I believed changed last year in 2002 in some small but noticeable ways (lights are a big giveaway). I wonder how he accounts for the lack of torque? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" />
One thing I always wondered about the NSX's was why their handling never really improved over the years. If you look back early models pulled .87-.88g and even the newest pulls .89. My wife's SUV pulls .89, the C2 btw pulls .94 according to one source I found, obviously a C4S or Turbo pulls even more.
In retrospect he may have made the right decision for other reasons, like buying a heavily optioned C2 is probably going to have worse resale value because you'll never get your money out of all those options. Of course if he's drag racing Mustang's all the time he might have been better off getting a car with one more year of warranty left on it.

NSX didn't impress me. I test drove an older NSX and even with the 20hp increase for the newer model, I don't think it will impress me much.

I have a 2002 M3 SMG and a 2000 Porsche Boxster S. The Boxster S felt more fun than this NSX. Looks-wise though, the NSX is really outstanding however.

Had an NSX. Great car, but needed a backs seat after I had two kids. The 996 is better all around car. The NSX could use a little more power. That would be sweet. Love the sound while driving though.

Three Wheelin'
The NSX (the newer ones...1998+) are great cars... super reliable... fast and handle well... different than a porsche.... but they are fun to drive...
as for looks... the flash factor goes to the NSX... the Porsche 911 has unique pedigree and the German cachet... that's why people look.. oh also the $$$ tag...
Personally, I drive a 996 cause I love everything about the car and would buy it (and did buy it) over an Acura NSX.... although IMHO the 996 is nothing special to look at.
