Unhappy Saying goodbye to my C4S

Well my friends, call me crazy, but I just put my Lapis Blue '02 C4S up for sale (Rennlist Visitor Listings). Like so many of you, I love this car and have also enjoyed reading and being a part of this forum. But with a Boxter and a C4S, travel options for my wife and I are often limited. I drove a Cayenne S and was really impressed. Just seems like it will be a more practical road car for up and down the east coast.

Now...somebody talk me out of it!!!

I've had my 03 c4s only for a few days, i can't imagine me selling this car for anything with less fun factor, and there ain't many out there which can give a rush like a c4s.
I don't understand though, why the c4s would not be a practical car for up and down the east coast. Man I hope you think this over well!

How about adding the roof transport system to the C4S to increase luggage capacity?

Ed996 -- I had not thought about the transport system -- good idea! However, we're usually OK for baggage, it's the back seat of a Cayenne for friends that appeals.
Jeeva, add a short shifter (B&M) and you'll enjoy even more, if you can imagine that! When I put mine in, every shift was just fun. It is the single best option you can put on a 996 as you may have read elsewhere in this forum.

Come to an agreement with your friends: they take you in their 4/5-seater when you go out together, or you go in convoy. When they want fun take them out one at a time in either the Boxster or the C4S as the thank you.

Or...get rid of both, buy a C4S Cab, and a used Audi S8. There: simple really.

Short Shift,
By "more practical", does this mean carrying more passengers? More luggage? All-weather use? Or does this maybe mean that, by buying an SUV, you don't have to worry so much about your nice C4S being damaged?
The reason I ask is this: If you need to carry more passengers, enjoy that new Cayenne. If it's the luggage, you've got more room in that C4S than you think. If it's all weather use, hey, it's a C4; buy a set of winter tires/wheels from Tire Rack. And if it's getting over that "Don't want to use my 911 as a beast-of-burden dilemma that most of us suffer from, consider this: This deal may cost you enough to effectively make both vehicles worth the same money, so no one is more "special" than the other any more.
If any of the latter three scenarios fit, just ask yourself, which one would I rather hit the road in for a weekender?
Obviously, I don't know your situation...just food for thought.
Good Luck,
-DT

Dirk -- You hit it on the head with the beast-of-burden thing. Like most P-cars guys I know, I keep the car pretty nice, and would like it to be an everyday driver. But as you know, the nose is low and bigger on the C4S, and construction areas make you tiptoe, avoiding dump trucks and good ole boys with their jacked up pick-ups sporting mud tires. I find myself leaving it in the garage and taking my Saturn unless its a predictable or special run. Then I say, "If I'm not driving it, why not get something I can drive?"
However, there is a lot of good sense in your post. Thanks for the good thoughts, Dirk.

Hello kettle, this is the pot. I'd just like to remind you that all those little rocks and gobs of mud aren't singling you out just because you drive a Porsche. Your C4S is not a rock magnet. OK, there's the occasional *****, but the majority of "exterior wear" is caused by just going down the road, whether it be in a Saturn, a Cayenne, or a C4S. That's life. Your a lucky guy to chip your windshield in a C4S instead of a Hyundai.

I've had too many "garage queens" (one of the very first early Boxsters and my first-ever P-car, a Viper GTS, a CSX 427 Cobra, my M5, etc). I'm trying real hard to get over it. Not quite there, but I'm trying.

Don't give up. Be strong. But if you do get a Cayenne, at least it's a P-truck!

Nuthin' like a nice long trip up the east coast in a used Explorer! Perfect for parking at trail heads, though...that's the one place I can't bring myself to park my P-car. Bought a new Wrangler pretty much just for that purpose, and now my wife hates me when we go hiking because she freezes her **** off en route (no really, honey, it didn't come with a top!). OK, so this contradicts my last post...but would you park a Cayenne at a remote trail head?

I'm with P-zen...ditch the Boxster. Use the doh to buy a used Range Rover 4.6. It may not be the P-truck, but they are nicely optioned up, comfortable and you won't feel the need to baby it as you might with the Cayenne.
