Question Harness guide bar installation

I have a Stable Energies www.stableenergies.com harness guide bar. It mounts between B-pillars on bolts used for the stock seatbelt D-rings.

Question: how do I get access to those bolts? The plastic cover needs to be removed, I just can't figure out how.

Thank you.

It is a pain in the
The adjuster for the seat belt is a plastic piece of crap. It is made in (3) parts and it seems to be glued on...but it is not....The bolt that holds the seat belt in has a small hole in the center the adjusted has a tube that fits into that hole. You have to pull on the whole thing till it pops off..It will feel like it is going to break but it will pop off...if it comes apart you can put it back together its not to tough.

I have the GT3 RoleBar in mine and I had to learn this the hard way

Good luck

Let me know if it works for you. I tried my Stable energies bar on Sat and took it out.

It seems to tight and no room to get even a 3/8" ratchet in a good position.

Now if you want to try installing their bar, grab the plastic cover along with the rear section with your finders by grabbing the back and then wiggle and pull. You do not want to pull just the front piece because it is a pain to get it back together. Also remember not to attach the racing harness to the bar, you should have the harness go over the bar and connect to the rear seat belt connecting points. The rear seat bottom is removable. It uses Velcro, you need to get your fingers under the seat and separate the Velcro to avoid cracking the plastic seat bottom that the leather is attached to. The tunnel side of the rear seat belt will require a short eye-bolt or cut the one that you have and use a die to correct the threads. The cover pulls off easily. The ouside eye-bolt length should be the same length as the original bolt with no needed for cutting. It looks like I'm going to install the Brey_Krause Harness mount, more prep initially but less work after that with out messing with the factory shoulder harness.

Armando, C4FDR,
Thank you for helping me out. Just like you said, "pull it like you wanna break it" is the proper technique!

The bar is in; works well for me. Initialy I set the adj. D-ring bolts in the lowest position, put the bar in and then lifted the whole thing maybe a notch up. You cannot lift the bar any higher than that. But at this height it works for me fine: I am 5'10" to give you a reference point.

The only complaint I have about the hardware is the washer that goes on the stock mounting bolt. The washer that comes with the bar is too thin. It might be better if there was a spacer AND a washer. I'll look around in the hardware store, it should be easy to find a proper piece.

BK mount bar or GT3 rollbar are a "better" and safer long-term solutions but you cannot use the back seat at all since it takes really long to put them in/out, esp. the GT3 rollbar!

The GT3 rollbar make the rear seats completly usless. I removed the rear seats entirely. Now all that lives back there is my harnesses which are bolted to the rear seatbelt mounting points. Looks really cool, works great with the harnesses and if the shiny side goes upsidedown then Im safe!!(my wife likes that part)

email me for pics of the bar....

John,

Out of curiousity: why do you mount the harness to the rear seat mounting points and not to the rollbar? That would be at least as safe, if not safer?

I have GT3 seats on order with Week 23 ETA. When I install them, I'll get a better idea how useful the rear seats become. If I find that kids have really hard time getting there, I'll give in and get the GT3 roll bar.

Only one child for a ride at a time then! Just imagine what that will cause!

Make sure you buy the "seat belt repair kit" from porsche. This way when you get your GT3 seats you can also use the normal seatbelts too.

I have the GT3 seats too and ended up getting the kit. Its not too bad about $80 buck if I remember right. Comes with the ends the seat belt attaches too. Also get used to having your air bag light on...when you unplug the wire under the seat it will come on...no you did not break anything...just another Porsche feature.

I just did my seats and bar...took it out for a while.

Takes about 1 1/2 Hours to take out GT3 seats take out rollbar and put in original seats and re hookup the seatbelts. The first time you put the bar in it will be a pain ...its too stiff from the start and hard to get in. Once its in leave it for a while it seemd to help mine a lot. Very easy in and out now....Watch your roof liner too!!!! as you put in first time....Sun roof rails will rub if your not carefull and "slice".
Did that my fist time...replaced it ..never again.
