Post Base Coupe Or 4S

When I option out a 2003 Carrera Coupe it came within $800 of a loaded 4S AWD.

So, what would you do?

I'd make the decision based on feel and handling rather than $ at that point.

If that close I take the C4S-better looking an better suspension. Killer looks baby!!! I recommend you test drive both and go with your "what makes your blood boil more?" theory. Both great cars. Regards and good luck. You have a great dilemma to decide : ). Mike

i struggled with the c4s vs c2 decision for several weeks. this decision is much harder because there are no c4s demos available!

if you take into account the additional equipment included in the c4s the price difference becomes negligible. i chose the c4s because of its additional capabilities in the rain but i now also enjoy its increased grip even in dry weather. to me the feel is very similiar to a 996 turbo without the retro rockets! great fun with a large margin of safety. i have no regrets whatsoever regarding my decision to buy the c4s even though i'm sure i also would have loved the c2! that all dilemas could be like this!

p.s. i think this decision would be harder for someone desiring a car with very few options because then the price difference could be up to $ 12k. this clearly doesn't apply to you.

When I was still waiting, there was a Guards Red/Black C2 Cab in the showroom that was optioned out and the MSRP was actually more than the C4S. It looked gorgeous. When the dealer saw my interest, he knocked off several $K's from the Cab MSRP, making it slighly cheaper than the C4S that still had 4 weeks to delivery. I waited for my C4S. I'm glad I did. One look at the "live" C4S, one drive, and I never looked back.

Hope this helps. You'll have to flip the coin sometime. If you are disappointed with the choice the coin makes, you'll know to get the other one!

Not that it really matters much, but I have also heard that the C4S also holds its value somewhat better than the already good value a C2 maintains. Certainly, there are fewer of them.

Depends on what you intend to do with the car. For me, the C4S has some nicities, but the C2 has 400 lbs less. I would PAY MORE for that. COme to think of it, I think I am?!?!

My guess would be that Porsche builds the C2 for the same reason Lexus builds a FWD RX300.

I didn't say I knew what that reason was/is, but I personally would never own a FWD RX300, not even if they gave me one.

BTW, if performance is your thing, check out an Excellence mag back issue. They compared the C4S to the TT. For $40K less, you get a car that is just only fractions slower than the TT. The AWD, PSM, suspension upgrades, etc, do a lot. They didn't compare it to the C2, but you can draw your own conclusions.

Sounds like you could be better off with the c4s.

You wont get much value from the extra options on th c2 on resell.
c4s Retains value better.

I really appreciate all of the great comments and opinions here.

I knew nothing of the C4S until joining this board a few days ago and it now seems to be the car for me.

Someone mentioned there may be a back up on building C4S's. Does anyone know how long it will take to get one?

I ordered my 2002 C4S in March and it is currently scheduled for production. The dealer originaly told me it would be a June build, but now it might be a May build.

Nonetheless, delivery is about a month after the production date, or so I was told. Best of luck with your purchase!
