Post 03 Cobra SVT vs 99 C2 Cab

well a guy in my area has a slightly modified Cobra SVT, as if the thing needed it he has lowered it 2 inches as well as put a performance header and exhaust system on it, we met up this weekend on a long stretch of straigh highway and decided we would run the 2 up till we had enough, my 99 C2 Cab has no mods mind you, from a dead stop all the way to 150 mph it was dead even, at 150 is when i started to noticably pull on him by 160 i was a full car length ahead and still pulling so we shut em down there, i had heard stock SVT is faster than the z06 vette i had my doubts until saturday

No doubt your 996 Cab is one fast machine. However, in a straight line like you did, a z06 Corvette would win. Once the Mustang gets to those kinds of speeds, it's (un)aerodynamics are clearly a hindrance.

Lastly, my 993 C4S would clearly be in 4th place against all of the cars mentioned above!

pretty good numbers for SVT .. but how much does it weigh? with that much HP and torque, it should out do a 996 in a straight line unless its a real pig (which it probably is)

Whoever was driving the Cobra is a bonehead, that thing should eat your 996 alive in a straight line STOCK, with his mods you shouldn't have even been close. Chalk this one up to damn good driving on your part, NICE RUN!

Help me out here. The cab is about 10.3 lbs/hp, the SVT is 9.4 to 9.6. I doubt that's enough to eat the cab alive and when you compare the aerodynamics, I'd expect something pretty close like you experienced. And I read that the SVT is governed at 155.

Patrick, it has more to do with torque than anything. The '03s peak torque is 390 lbs. ft. at an amazingly low (for a root-type blower anyway) 3500 rpm. The 3.4 996s however make 258 ft lbs @ 4600 rpm. That's about 130 lbs. ft. and when you consider the fact that the HP is hugely underrated on the cobra, NiveK should've gotten beat pretty good considering the car was modded as well.

Yep... What's happening is that when I added the new circuits - more folks came on-line... So....

Even though we now have twice the bandwidth - we have almost THREE times the number of users logged in during the peak times..!!! Anyway - what happens is - if you post, and there is a delay, and you hit the "Add Reply" button again - well - you'll get a double post.. Anyway - it's not a problem from my end, and don't worry too much about it, OK??? I'm seeing what I can do to make the Forums speed up (again!!!!! YIKES!!!!) so that posts are posted faster...

Best to you!

Possibly that "performance" exhaust did the opposite.

As soft as the 996 is off the line, he really should have got the jump and kept it until the aerodynamics start to dominate at 70-80 mph.

well actually from 0-40 he had about half a car on me but it seemed as he went to third i caught him in a change right before i went up and at that point it stayed even to 150, but even at 160 he was only a car back and i doubt he was limited to 155 since he didn't nose dive , my Z3 coupe does a nice nose dive at 137 <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" />

i just sold a 2003 cobra conv.: excellent price/performance. 0-60 in 4.5s and my speeds at my known brakepoints at the end of short straights was about 88% of the gt2 [cold brakes]. but limited brakes which overheat and handling not quite as good as a stock 996, but for $36k, you get 85% of a 996 [guesstimate]

hhmm... a 99 C2 CAB beat out an 03 SVT Cobra?

And a few weeks ago someone was talking about losing to an SMG M3 with a 996 Coupe? I don't see how you could've smoked an SVT Cobra with your convertible, when an M3 is even with Cobra..and yet beats out a 996 Coupe to certain speed.

I guess like ZAMIRZ is saying, that Cobra driver really sucked and the 996 Cab driver is excellent.

With just a pulley upgrade on the Cobra it goes into mid 12s in the 1/4 mile. Those mods he must've done really sucked then.
