Idle speed drops - Motronic 7.2
Hi,
I know that on pre-2000 996s the idle drops by about 120 revs when the aircon is turned off. I thought that this has changed with the introduction of E-gas and Motronic 7.2, in that the throttle position is now adjusted according to the current load on the engine. Consequently, once the engine is warm, the idle stays steady, no matter if the aircon is turned on or off.
However, on my 6/2000 Carrera 2, which, according to the factory, has E-gas and Motronic 7.2, the idle still drops when I turn off the aircon. The factory tells me that this is not supposed to happen, whereas my dealer tells me it's quite normal. I know that I have driven 2002 996s where this didn't happen. Can anybody shed some light on this?
Cheers,
Uwe

How do you know you have Motronic 7.2? All MY2000 cars had E-gas but the Motronic update (from 5.3) was done late in the year and I am not sure that the program change you are talking about happened until Variocam Plus (MY02). BTW... MY02 uses Motronic 7.8.

I know that I've got 7.2 because firstly the factory told me so based on the VIN and secondly the DME readout says so.
Without aircon, the idle is 690-700 with an engine load of 25%, with aircon it's 810-820 with 28% load. I'm just wondering if anybody with Motronic 7.2 has experienced the same.

Yes, so all MYs C4's have E-gas but the C2's were converted over to E-gas in mid (MY) 2000. So, some C2's from that time have DME 5.3 and some have DME 7.2.
It still sounds normal to me.
