Post Hey everyone...a question?

Just wanted to compliment everyone on this board. I'm a Porsche fan and dream of owning one someday, but since I'm 18 and just starting college, I think I'll just have to wait...Anyhoo, my question is that I've read on this site about porsche car gatherings. Are they open to Porsche fans, or do you have to be an owner? I'd like to go to one just to see some 996's up close. The reason I ask is that every time I've ever looked at a nice car in a parking lot, I've had **** owners react. (yes, I'm talkting to you mr. ferrari man) Come on, I'm just a kid admiring your car. Didn't everyone else that owns a fine sports car like a Porsche act the same way when they saw one when they were younger. Well, if these gatherings are open to anyone, can any of yall recommend any in Texas? Thanks a million.

Most Porsche gatherings are most receptive to fans who want to look at the cars.

For an even closer look, have you tried looking at a dealer? Dress up a little bit (I don't mean a suit) and see if you can get the sales guy to give you a ride in one of the 911's Sometimes, you'll find a really nice dealer. At 16, one saleswoman let me drive three new 911's. Imagine how cool that was

However, at the meets there are often some of the really nice owners who love to offer young guys such as yourself rides in their P-cars. I give people rides all the time

Thanks Don, I'm beginning to like Porsche owners more and more already, but sadly I'm kind of restricted to the Houston/Austin area as it's closest to my college. Although I shouldn't be complaining. This college education might just get me a new Porsche in say about.......10 years. Thanks again for your kindness.

John,

Just look up your local Porsche club website. Check out the schedule of events. There will be drive-ins and concourse events, usually held at a local large parking lot. Most Porsche owners, myself included, like to show off their cars in the appropriate venue. During these events, I am more than happy to have anyone go over the car, sit in it, and depending on the moment, even drive them around as a passenger. It would be totally different on the street or any old parking lot, where I am still friendly but more guarded. Unfortunately, that's the sign of the times we live in.
