It's time for me to change my oil again. The last time, I put in Mobil-1 15W-50 with a stock filter as recommended by the dealer. Is there a better way to go? I also heard Mobil recently lost a law suit to Castrol and can no longer use their 'tri-synthetic' formula.
Anyone have any experience with Amsoil filters?

Since Mobil 1 is the factory fill, I have been using it exclusively on my 996 like I did with the 986 and my '44T. 15w50 is the fill I am using. As for filters, remember the 996 is a cartridge type not a screw on like others. I have been using the factory filter with good results even through DE events.

For some reason, dealers in California are recommending 15-50. Do you live in Europe? 0-40 is also the recommended oil for my Audi S4, according the the manual. However, I can't seem to find it anywhere in Northern California so I've been using 0-30 for the Audi and 15-50 for the Porsche.
Thanks for the info.

0W-40 is only available at the dealer (it's a conspiracy...) Benz dealers have it too.
