Post 99-00 Locator??

Hi,

This is my first post here. I have been lurking around for several months, but I am finally in the market for 99-00 Porsche.

My question is, how easy it is to find one with the following option?

Must:
-Exterior Color: Silver, Seal Gray or Black
-Interior Color: Red or Black
-Aerokit (I know that I can get an aftermarket, or get it through the dealer, but want to avoid the hassle of going back and forth to the dealer or bodyshop)
-Tiptronic (my wife will not learn 6-speed no matter what happens, and she wants to drive this car for a substantial amount of time)
-3 spoke steering wheel

My wife and I do not care much about the other options.

I have looked around all the listings in ebay, autotrader, cars.com, and here, but could not find the exact match. Since we have a budget limit, we cannot really look for later year cars.

A lot of cars with aerokit are 6-speed (I wish that my wife would give up on this, but she can't even drive well with automatic ). I don't know how hard it is to find such combinations?

Any comments or help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

P.S. Is winter a good time to purchase Porsche or should I wait until Spring?

Silver with black interior is a very popular color, so should be relatively easy. Aerokit, well, not many people like them, and there's a wide variety available. A significant portion of Porsches are, surprisingly, tiptronics. Some have opted to replace with the 3 spoke steering wheel.

Now, finding all of that together in a credible reliable source, with good papers, good history, decent price, excellent shape.....well, I wouldn't hold my breath, if I were you.

I think your approach to a second hand car purchase is all wrong. Get the basics down, and I mean real basic. Color both in and out, tiptronic, and your budget. That's it. Anything more, and you might as well buy lotto tickets and get better odds. Just my .02.

Hi: First of all, don't apologize about a Tip. They are a lot of fun in their own way.

My advice is to contact Brian Buxton at Buxton Motor Sports with your requirements. He has an excellent reputation and has access to many more listings than you can get on your own.

He is also very reasonable and a great guy.

He is also a rennlist sponsor..

Good luck and let us know how you make out!

Thanks for your help, guys! I am glad to hear that searching for Tiptronic ones won't be too difficult.

I am not sure if I understand this correctly. Will options (such as an aerokit or 3 spoke steering wheels) add any values or additional cost to a used car value? In other words, if there are identical used 996, but one has an aerobody kit, and the other one doesn't. Will there be a price difference? If so, shouldn't I alter my budget considering this?

I am sorry.. This will be my first pre-owned purchase(so I don't know much about the process), and I want to stick with pre-owned cars (my previous cars were all purchased brand new, and had substantial loss due to depreciation).

A factory (emphasize "Factory") aerokit was about $8000 for factory installation. On a used car expect to pay an additional $2000 for it.

Any after market installation (including Porsche dealers IMHO) is not worth as much nor will they add to the resale value.

I've got everything you want except Tiptronic. And, go for it now...it's a buyer's market.

What I meant was, it would be very hard to find a used car with all the options you want, and none of the options you don't want. It would be easier if you made choices based on standard equipment(color, tiptronic), then look at what's available. If your heart is set on several specific options (above plus aerokit plus 3 spoke), you may never find a match.

Conversely, it is also usually difficult to match a used car with several options to a buyer who specificaly likes those options. That's why in the used car market, most sellers usually get diddly resale value on option items. If you do find two cars, one with an aerokit and one without, don't be surprised if the price difference wouldn't be so big. Some people, myself included, would never buy a used car with aerokit, making the demand less for acrs with aerokits. Add that to the fact that it's a buyers market, you can get great deals!!!

Good luck!

Why would you not buy a used car with aerokit? Are the ones with aerokit less desirable? Is it the look or are you more concerned with the quality with the installation (if not installed in "Factory")?

One more question... Are there abundant 996 with red interiors? My sister has boxster with red interior, and it seems as if it's quite common in boxster, but not sure about 996.

Again, thanks for your help!

I just don't like them. Some do, some don't.
