Post Trading M5 for 2002 911

Hello all:

Can anyone offer advise on trading my 2001 M5 with 3000mi for a 2002 911 coupe? The M5 is like new.

I drove the 911 and really liked the smaller car.

Do the Porsche cars always sell at MSRP or better? How willing do you think the dealership would be to offer a great trade in amount for the M5?

Thanks in advance for any help!

No, while in 1999/2000 the EXCEPTION was to get a discount off MSRP, now the exception is to NOT get a discount. 3% to 7% off 2002s is the range I've seen. I've personally been offered discounts from 3 to 4% on an 02 cabs and most dealers will discount coupes even harder. So, deal. It's a buyer's market!

My experience suggests that any discount from MSRP depends on what EXACTLY you want. The dealers I visited in No Cal were open to some negotiation on '02 Coupes already on their lots but not for factory orders and definitely NOT for the new C4S! That said, you have nothing to lose by calling around and seeing who most wants your buisness.

If you have a problem with the MSRP game in N. Cal, just call a couple dealers in Fla and they'll ship it to you for thousands less. You'll probably get an earlier allocation as well if you are ordering.

Same is true in the NYC area. I got a $3,300 discount on an '02 cab when I ordered in July for Oct. delivery and people who ordered later in the Fall, especially after Sept. 11, have reported discounts of 4% to 6%. Part of the trick may be to find a dealer with a larger monthly allocation who is under pressure to move cars.
