Post Regarding '99 996 pre '99 models?

Hello and good day. Hope everyone's Thanksgiving has gone well. My question is what problems came up on this pre-99 996 and were their major ones. I saw a few on this website but i forgot what was mentioned so it would be appreciat4ed if someone can tell me again. I have a pre 99 996 and the only problems i had were the airbag lite, oil leaks which were all corrected. It has 19k miles and the car has not gone thru ne problems. Thanks for your time. I also posted another topic with refernce to the 2002 model which i am interested in purchasing if the car's crankcase is strong enough to handle more power gains which is not in the case for the 3.4l ones. take care

I had a '99 996 built in 9/98. Apart from the check airbag light, the check engine light had a tendency to go on which was solved by a new rubber gasket on the gas cap. Also, there was a recall to fix the engine lid to prevent corrosion. I really had no other problems with this car and I had it for three years and 55k mi. before I traded it in for an '02.

It appears that people are really taking a hit on the trade-in values of '99 996s probably being a combination of a lot of cars coming off 3-yr leases and the competition from the new '02's which are a big upgrade. Mine was admittedly a high-milage car and I was offered $40,000 by the dealer's wholesaler in Oct. (i.,e. post Sept. 11). I was able to sell it privately for $45k and the dealer let me run the transaction thru his dealership so that I saved thousands on the sales tax.

glove box latch. This was replaced along with new seat belt buckles to cure airbag light. Gas cap seal and corrosion spray on the rear deck lid all done for free under recall. No problems otherwise- The car see's little use so future problems may arise. perhaps someone with quite a few miles may post their experiences with brakeage??

Thumbs up

2/98 build date, 16000 miles. No oil leaks, no check engine light. Squeaky clutch fixed, airbag fix, minor warrenty issues. Other than that it has been pretty good... knock on wood

Cool

'99 Coupe w/21000 miles. Airbag Light (seatbelt sensors) 3 times. Leaking right & left valve cover gaskets. Leaking flywheel gasket. New rear window. New sunroof motors and tracks. Defective lumbar support and I think a few other little things I can't remember right now.

Car started making a weird noise and my oil pressure gauge was acting weird but besides that, awesome car!
