I saw a full used instrument cluster sell for $610 on E-bay a few days ago.

If you replace the entire cluster, which includes the odometer (?), wouldn't this alter the mileage, for better or worse, of the car?

Can the car computer and ultimately the service department detect this swap?

I saw that as well. I was under the impression that the mileage is in the brain box, not the cluster.

The cluster must be reprogrammed for your car by a dealer.

The mileage is in the cluster. So, if you bought that cluster off of ebay and plugged it into your car you will see whatever is stored in the used cluster. I bought a used 996 cluster off of ebay to put in my Boxster so I could have the 2 additional gauges. When I plugged in the 996 cluster it showed 990 miles but my car has 45k miles.

A used cluster will also have the VIN for the car it came from. So, if the ebay cluster is in your car the dealer can hook up the PST2 and read the VIN to see if it matches your car. When the dealer programs a new cluster they enter the VIN for your car into the new cluster with the PST2. Jeff

Funny coincidence, i just saw now a 2000 C2 with white dial clusters here.. had 4500km on the reading. I was wondering how come and i read this post!

Does this cluster has anything to do with programing immoblizer codes ? or the immoblizer is programmed in diffrent place (ECU or what so ever?)
