I have read somewhere that the GT3 uses a B&M shift mechanism. Does anyone know? The shifters I have seen in pictures, to me, do look shorter than the standard shift *****.

The GT3 uses the same short-throw shifter as originally developed for the GT2. I don't know where Porsche sources the parts from but I doubt it is B&M. The feel is supposed to be similar to the B&M, however.

Thanks for a nice, informative post. I just drool over that GT3.

I hate to create competition for myself, in my quest for one, but if you can have only one Porsche, this is it.

I can feel it now, I'd like the to drive the GT2 and GT3 back to back at various events. I want to be a perpetual student

That's the stuff dreams are made of (until the 997 GT3 comes along about 4-5 years from now?)!

Nice article. I just joined this forum as I am looking into the possibility of a GT3 myself. Does anyone know if they will be building this GT3 for at least a couple of years, or is this it??

2004 will most likely be the only year for the US-legal 996 GT3.

2005 will bring 997 model (maybe with a US legal GT3 and maybe not)
