Question Reset Computer w/ Battery Cables???

Hi Guys:

I just got a Boxster, and see that problems like the air bag warning light recurring issue seems identical with the 996. So, I am posting here too.

On my 928, you can remove the battery cables, and hold them together for a few seconds to reset computer(s). Does this apply to newer Porsche technology?

I removed the seats to re dye the leather. (Leatherique products are phenomenally good. See leatherique.com. - I have no affiliation.) The airbag light now stays on. A dealer has replaced seat belt buckles and performed wiring harness modification. So I now must take the car to the dealer to do a reset??? The manual states that the airbag system is still active even though I get a warning light. So, is it working properly? Should I bother to have it serviced?

Is there not a way that I can reset the computer(s) without a service call to the dealer?

Another concern is with the alarm double flash, and horn beep upon alarm set. The doors and oddities compartment lock properly. I have heard that this can be a convertible top sensor problem. Yuk! Where do you start troubleshooting overly sensitive sensors? Is it worth the bother? Is the alarm working properly even though I get the unlocked compartment, sunroof problem,... indicator?

Thanks in advance for any tips!

I was told to undo the negative cable on the battery, stand on the brake for a minute or two then replace the negative cable on the battery. Apparently, this resets the computer but does not wipe the memory so when connected to the computer at the dealer, they can see the error codes that triggered the previous light.

Cool

Hi John,

Thanks for the idea. I disconnected the negative terminal cable, stood on the brake pedal for a couple of minutes, reconnected the cable, stood on the brake pedal for a couple of minutes, started the car, stood on the brake pedal for a couple of minutes, still got airbag warning light.

ToolPants said that if I disconnected the harness beneath the seat, and turned the key, the light would stay on until reset by the dealer. It seems absurd to necessitate a specialized expensive dealer reset when you remove a seat. As if the car is not expensive enough,... the do it yourselfer encounters hidden expensive money grabbing Porsche built in gotcha's. But that is just my opinion.

Again, John, thanks for the ideas. Any other thoughts would also be welcome.
