Avis use to rent them for something like $150/day with a mileage limit. I see no cons. Many people rent them, go to the ring and go back home after...
Seems like a good deal to me

Avis is the only major carrier that rents Porsche. I was in Berlin two summers ago and I was going to take the Autobahn to Hamburg. Unfortunately I was 28 at the time and Avis wouldn't rent me a Porsche, as they have a minimum age limit of 30 to rent a Porsche. I ended up with a manual MBZ SLK Compressor from Avis, and I can tell you that it maxs out at 235 kph with the top down (Berlin to Hamburg) and 250 kph with the top up (Hamburg to Berlin.

Make sure that you are familiar with the rules and etiquette of driving on the Autobahn.

Last week I was booking a car online to be picked up at Frankfurt, (for a family trip). So I thought I would just poked around a bit to see what a PCar would cost. I remember looking at a C2 Cab and thought it wasn't too bad of a price. However I can't remember the site where I found it, (I think one of the Euro car places that broker for others).

I took at look at Auto Europe and found quite a few exotics, but the prices seem much higher than what I found on my original search and site last week.

996 Turbo Tip: $10K/7days
Ferrari Spider: $15K/7days
Astin-Martin DB7 Cab: $12K/7days
BMW M3 Cab: $4.7K/7days

Good luck.

thanks, i talked to Avis and they are willing to do two weeks for $127 per day, plus insurance of course, so that adds about $34 per day. They didn't mention a mileage limit, so will have to check into that. I had to go through several people before I found someone that knew what and where to check for the specific car...with a 6 speed of course.

ya know, this really is a terrific forum. you guys/gals are great!

Three things I learned when renting in Germany:

1)Any credit card for rental insurance allows something like 20K for any auto damages. So it is important you take local coverage, which btw, it seems you did.

2) Many of the rentals can be Tip's Suggest requesting transmission type when placing reservation.

3) Not all of Autobahn is unlimited speed limits. So as mentioned earlier need to understand local regulations.

Sounds like great fun - enjoy !

Yes
Sixt is a good place to rent cars. As an American you can get discounts I believe. At least holds true to military folks. Avis is the place to rent the Porsche though 2 things that held me back from one. 1) Age limit is 30 im only 21 and 2) You need to hold 2 credit cards at least, and i only have one. Yes its like 50 euro cent per km. NOT MILE..so price with rack up real quick. At least for me that would be a lot quick I know for most on this board probably isn't. Anyways my tid bit of info if it helps.
