My car usually smells like burnt oil. Probably from the RMS leaking ever so slightly and frying itself on the manifold? Try looking for areas of burnt oil near the center of the engine where the transmission and engine meet.

I vote for cosmoline, always smells from drivers side when i pull into the garage.
