I don't know....the one I'm looking at buying was recalled and the transmission replace after 6months in service.....It was called a recal campaign, so I assumed it involved many...but who knows.
Anyone else?

skipp,
I have a 6speed man. that had a recall on the transmission. However it was NOT for a replacement, supposedly it was just for a programming update. I think this was done in early 2003.
Hopefully this will help some.

Hi all -- I would definitely like to hear more about this, as I purchased a used '02 manual 996 about a year and a half ago. I don't remember them listing this as service being performed on the car (it was serviced by the dealership where I purchased it since it was originally sold). I am going to call and ask, but does anyone have definative info on this?

First, there was no recall - recalls are safety related.
There might have been a WSA (workshop service action) that called for specific VIN number cars to have their transmissions replaced for factory defects. In some cases only the dealers that actually take delivery of specific VINs are notified. But, any dealer can check your VIN (with PCNA's database) and see if it was 1. on the list and 2. if the work was done.
