996 brakes
For those that have tracked their 996.
I am taking my 996 C2 coupe to the track for a DE at Sebring. How do these brakes hold up under track use? The brakes pads are factory stock with Porsche brake fluid that was changed one year ago (~4500 miles).
TIA

You should be fine. I just completed 2 days worth of DE's and all was fine until day 2 last run, the fluid boiled or the pads super heated and the pedal went to the floor. After stabing at the pedal a couple of times it came back enough to stop.
PS. dont use the e-brake after any of your runs, it could warp rotors.

SLOTH. JOHN IS CORRECT. THE BRAKES SHOULD BE FINE FOR DE EVENTS. HOWEVER, IF YOU FIND THAT YOU WANT TO " UP THE ANTY ", GT3 BRAKES IS THE NEXT STEP.
WE HAVE INSTALLED THE GT3 KITS ON FEW " TUNED 996 CARS ". ABSOLUTE AWSOME BRAKING POWER !!! EVEN MY DE STUDENTS THAT I INSTRUCT AT LOCAL TRACKS HAVE GONE WITH THE UPGRADE AND THEY LUV IT !!!

Certainly would love to do the GT3 upgrade, but I am hoping not to get into the habit of tracking the 996. That is what the 944T is for if I can ever get it down here.

I know our region requires fresh fluid (within 6 months) as part of the tech inspection prior to doing a DE. I agree with Greg, change the fluid or at least have the brakes bled. If you aren't going to track it often, stock pads and fluid are ok. Sebring will be esp. hot this time of year, so you want to help your brakes all you can.
