Driving Schools, any thoughts??
Have 11 DE days, and at the low end of the 2nd run group (of five). getting impatient with my progress. any thoughts on driving schools as a way to progress.

Maybe try to attend a Racing School like Skip Barber. I attended a 3-day program a few years back and loved it. The cars you drive will feel a lot different than your Porsche but you will learn basic principles of car control, heel toe shifting, threshold braking, etc. Just my opinion. Plus when you lose it, which I did a few times, it isn't your car!!!

I've been to quite a few, and found this one to be bar none the very best in terms of learning, value, etc:

I'm taking the Master's course next month! I can't wait!!!!!!! The first one was simply amazing - two days (with only about 1 hour of class time) driving the car FULL OUT around Road Atlanta (no passengers and no being a passenger - except the last day when you go around a lap with the instructors).

I have taken the Panoz Road Racing School 3 day beginner and 2 day advanced classes. They have classes at Sebring, Road Atlanta, and a few other tracks. Both classes use a purpose built car with the advanced car having more power and better handling. Due to increased track time you would gain a lot more experience in the same time than you would running a PCA DE. They are SCCA accredited if you wanted to get SCCA licensed.

Nothing beats seat time.
Attending those professional schools will definitely help.
However, it might not help you move up your group standing immediately.
Just be patient. Keep going to the DE and show your intructors that you're consistent, smooth and Safe (does not mean slow).
Best of luck

Road One!

Started a couple years ago to get a few of us on the track, this is now one of the premiere driving schools around. Run on tracks within a short drive of Los Angeles like Button Willow and Willow Springs. Two different run groups of no more than 15 students each, all levels of ability and amazing instructors like Tom Bungay and Eric Messley. More track time than most can handle, I usually get in 5 - 8 30 minute sessions and rarely have traffic. Cost is about $450. and very well worth it. Cars are usually half Porsches and BMW's and everyone is very in to driving, great group.
There's an event in the beginning of September. Might be full but send Jordan an e-mail and tell him I sent you. You will be able to progress and advance at your own rate with all the instructors and track time available.
Hope to see you,
Josh

I have done a lot of classes at Derek Daly at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway and highly recommend them. They are the only school in the country that has real formula cars and all the time in the cars with the computers on really helps you see where you need improvement. I am also a big fan of using the school's car, not your own. I remember years ago at Bondurant, a guy crashed his own car and broke its axle in the last hour of the third day of school. While I was turning in my rental Mustang to the school, he was waiting for a tow truck and trying to figure out how to get home.

I agree with Josh -- Road One Racing is excellent. Great instructors and tons of track time. Moreover, there is a one to one ratio of instructors to drivers, thereby ensuring personal instruction during each of the seven 30 minutes track sessions.
BTW Josh, were you at the July Road One DE at Willow Springs?

I did Skip Barber 2 day car control course with my wife and it was a blast. After that we did FCA (Ferrari Club) events for a couple of years and they always had Skip Barber instructors who taught me a lot.
The Barber open wheel 3 day course seems great fun and I'm 35 minutes from the Justin Bell Z06 course at Moroso.
However, for learning the vehicle dynamics of the Carrera I would stick with Road Atlanta or other course where you are driving and handling a rear engine car.
