Question is anyone going to put snow tires on their c4s or turbo? any suggestions to keep from

breaking the bank? tire rack won't even sell a standard set of snows/wheels online because of "technical problems with this application". i know owner's manual has recs for snow tires but but not for extra rims which will clear our huge calipers. i can't bear the thought of puting away the c4s car until spring! palting and i may need to look into hi octane prozac!

The new Chistophorus has a whole article on it. It looks like Dunlop SP Winter Sports M2 NO are what you need; 225/40 R 18 in front and 265/35 R 18 in the back.

Chains: Rudimatic Disc Porsche part no. 996.361.922.00

Ever thought of moving south, say to Arizona?

I have taken my 78 up to Snoqualmie pass skiing and a few times had to use cable chains but I would neevr do that with a 996.

Question

Ignacio, you're in Maryland and you're worried about snow tires? You need a bra or something to protect you from sand and salt. I don't remember snow in Fallston when I lived there...

OK not Dunlops just went out and checked, Dunlops on the BMW. I tried winter tyres last year for the first time on my 996 (always had them on BMW)and they made a big big difference in the snow, especially up hill driving with snow on the road. Even though I've got a C4, the grip improvement was amazing in comparison to the year before. You live and learn.

Michelin XMS 330

front 205 50 R17
rear 255 40 R17

My Summer tyres are also Michelins, but Pilot's and same dimensions as above but ZR17, obviously.
These winter tyres were supplier by Porsche dealer in Germany to the guy I bought them from.

Regards
Cammy

maryland is unpredictable. last 4 winters have been easy but we sometimes get 60+ " in a bad year. it makes it hard to plan sensibly.

I've been driving all wheel Pcars in the snow for along time.....most recently the last 2 winters on the turbo, and last winter the 02 C4...........both get dedicated tires/wheel for 4 winter months.

These cars leave all-wheel SUVs & pickups at the lights and go like heck......the corners in the snow are like club autocross weekends....it's a hoot...ya gotta do it.
Email me if ya want some specific tire/wheel info....I started experimenting w/the 993 and by now have come up w/a bit unconventional combo I like......GreggT

Thumbs up

Yeah, I'm going to put a set of Pirelli 240 Snowsport on my 996 Turbo, like last year. BTW, this combination behaves surprisingly well on snowy roads!

Greetings,
