Default OE Radio question

Can anyone please tell me whether the Porsche OE radio in the 996's (CDR 23) made by Becker requires a code to activate it once it has been removed from the car? Have a friend who is contemplating removal (not an internet user) on a car that he bought used without a manual for the radio.

THANKS for any help.

Some of the techs from Porsche wrote the codes under the hood of the vehicle so they could reset it once they disconnected the battery. You might want to tell him to check there.....

I pulled the CDR 23 out of my 2003 C2 Cab with the Bose system a week ago to install a trim piece. When I plugged it back in it worked fine. Don't forget you need the radio removal keys to do this. I got them at the dealer for $5.50.

I think it'll ask for a code to activate once you unplug the harness. The code is on a card (look in manual packet or hood sticker. I think you can get the code from a dealer w/ proof of ownership too. Not sure if that'll cost you.

HenryM, did you just pull out the HU without disconnecting the harness?

The CDR-23 does not have a code. If you had a CDR-23 before it can be put back in the car without any other action. If you move it to another car it will likely need to be initialized by someone with PST2 or PIWIS tester.

I just finished installing new CF pieces around the stereo. I pulled the plastic pieces out and the whole nav. system. Had to unplug it to remove the bezel from the back. Plugged it back in ...worked fine. BTW don't need a removal key???
