I was sitting in traffic on my way home from work yesterday. It was a beautiful autumn day. Had the windows down and the sunroof open. Traffic was stopped both ways. A guy on the other side in a beater Datsun stuck his head out and said "yew look lahk a piece o' sh*t".
I moved from Portland, OR to Asheville, NC about a year ago. We were in Portland for almost 10 years and really enjoyed it. There are many more toothless rednecks out here and I'm surprised that I haven't had more comments like that.
You reacted exactly as I would have. Thanks for sharing the story.
Let it go.
Be glad that you are close to PIR. I never started following racing until I moved out here (American Le Mans, SCCA, F1, Rolex Series, etc.-just about everything except NASCAR). The nearest track for me is a couple hours away now.
Some people have no respect. Just bc you drive a Porsche, they think you have no feelings.
I hope that didn't ruin your drive. I've had someone spaying windshield fluid washer in a tall SUV while I was next to her w my top down. Needless to say, I got some in my face and couldn't even stare into that person's face bc of the SUV's height.
Don't mess w those aholes. Just laugh at them for their low life trashy POS. It's times like these I don't feel back being a dick.
It's a scary world out there. I've had a women jumping out of her car only to scald at me for reading my mail at a light. People just think they rule the world.
i agree
many of these people just dont understand
i choose to ignore them
i do not eve dignify their ignorance with a look
i just tear away and pass them
A couple weeks after I got my sl55 I had a guy in the passenger of an old beater at a red light seat flick me off for no reason.. I asked him what was up as he was right next to me.. and he told me my car was a piece of sh*t.. i laughed to myself as they drove away in their rattling 1984 pontiac.. I didn't say anything, because getting beat up by five black guys was not something I was looking for :>
one just has to realize, jealousy comes from insecurity... and if anything, feel sorry for them for being so miserable and such miserable people.. think about it... have you ever had anyone in a nice car, or someone with their life going great ever insult you? :>
usually insults come from people that have the "money buys happiness philosophy and i'm not happy because i don't have money" philosophy... so they are upset that others "appear happy" makes them feel better about themselves, by putting someone more successful than them down.. the whole immature bully mentality, which should have stopped being used in high school, but some people never quite mature past that stage..
Growing up, I used to want a vanity license plate that read "2HVIS2B"! For those who dont figure it out, that reads: to have is to be. Of course this would go on my dream sports car. As I grew up and out of that flashy, show off to others what I have phase, I came to realize I dont have to show off anything at all. I dont have to spend big to prove anything to others. Why keep up with the jones's, when you can be the jones. But of course some material posessions just show off naturally, like a gorgeous porsche. And the reactions of others, trying to keep up with the jones's when they realize they cant, is to reduce themselves to the only other thing they can; namely envy and spite. They want to bring you down to their low class (personality wise). Rather than rise up and say, "one day, I am going to earn one of those". I would ask people on the street when I saw them drive a nice car what they did for a living. You know, to figure out what type of career I need to pursue to attain the dream items I desired. I rose up to the challenge and earned my car. Let the low life, low class, piece of sh*ts, just watch me drive by and say to themselves in self retrospect, "If I just tried, maybe I can achieve the same things to".
Lee, If that diplomat ever visited Rennlist and read your posts, he would know that you're a pretty decent fellow. Oh, my bad, maybe he can't read.
I was cruising along PCH with the top down ('02 C2) a couple of months ago - beautiful afternoon, enoying the sights. I was stopped a red light when a couple of Harleys with gaudy bolt on cosmetic accessories and uncorked pipes came up along the left side of me. It was obnoxiously loud. No, really.
I took off a little quicker than normal (didn't redline it, not even close) when the light turned green to save my left ear drum. As I shifted into 2nd and glanced at my rearview at the bikes, I realized that these gentlemen had decided with no proper indication to me, that this was some sort of competition.
I thought it was goofy because I wasn't racing and they were trying so hard catch up - geez their pipes were so frickin' loud and at this point, I was 2 car lengths in front of them.
Further on down the road, stopped in traffic at another red light, I see these guys behind me weaving through the stopped cars. One of them pulled right up to me and says: "You may be faster, but you'll never be as cool." Alrighty then.
I just gave him my biggest, brightest smile. I guess I'll have to make do with being uncool.
FWIW, I've ridden, owned and enjoyed my fair share of bikes for the past 30 years, including HDs. My baby was a 1958 Panhead and if I were to ever by another Harley, it would be a Panhead - I just love 'em. My next bike will be a Ducati, though.
That is one thing about So.Cal there are so many 996's and Boxsters driving around they just blend. I never had this type of an experience with my Modded 996 or modded CayenneS DD... I did have a lot of "brotha's" tell me my Cayenne was "OFF THE HOOK" more then once. I think it's the Black 22" wheels with polished lips
