Default HELP!- Tiptronic shifter won's seat properly!

Hello All!
I took my tiptronic shifter off today to replace the rear center console (which in itself wa a job) - 1999 c2
put everything back and now, i cannot get the button for the shifter know to sit back properly. I can get it to "sit" on the hinge but the minute i depress the button to shift the button pops off of the hinge.
HELP!?!?!?!?!

any ideas or thoughts woulf be appreciated!
thanks

Did you put the clip back on?

When you put the shifter button back into place you really need to press hard to 'snap' it back on.

I think that is the part you're talking about?

i put the clip back on
basically i asembled all of the pieces into the "button" first
i then placed the spring on the guide peg of the actual shifter
i then lined up the button and pressed really reall hardd
it snaps on but not tightly
and the minute i touch the button it pops off again
any thoughts?

Hmmm, can't think of anything else that it could be off hand.
