Default Hole in wheel

I took my car in to a Porsche exclusive wheel/tire shop for a slow leak. I was suprised when I saw me the air bubbling through the wheel itself. Looking at the wheel from the side, the pin hole is in the middle of the wheel. I plan to ask the dealer to cover the replacement wheel under warranty.

Anyone else ever experience a wheel hole? Anyone think I'll get push back from the dealer about whether or not this is covered under warranty?

I can't imagine them giving you grief. There is a difference between a slow leak from a stress crack brought about by hitting a pothole, etc., but it's another thing to have a wheel with a hole in it. That would be an imperfection and defect which should be covered under warranty. All comes down to the relationship you have with the dealer.

That's no hole, that's a gash!

Tore a similar size gash at the inner edge of the tread, probably a chunk of concrete from our disintegrating roads. The volcanic eruption into the wheel space just missed the brake caliper and the suspension down arm. I was very very lucky.

There is something to be said for steel wheels no matter how heavy they are!

Any one got a dent wheel covered under warranty? If so, under what circumstance?

Not to worry. I bought a tire/wheel insurance policy from the dealer as I planned on using this as a daily driver. They have shelled out $2000 so far this summer. I'm way ahead.

Yeah, you think you got a hole?

Check out this - shows how fragile those factory wheels really are:

This happened on my old '99 when it was about 10 months old. Cops thought it got shot out. I rolled from a stop at a light in traffic, felt a lump/bump, then BAM, there was smoke at the rear and I limped off the road.

Nascar wheel guy who is a former NASA physicist confirmed - the wheel was not properly annealed in the manufacturing process. Most likely a piece of construction re-bar in the road wedged into the tread on one revolution of the wheels, then it popped through the wheel the next time 'round.

Sucked. Had to replace one wheel, two tires. Porsche never claimed any failure. Gee, what a shock.

Eric,
I completely sympathize with the hole. I agree, compared to you, I don't have a hole. Your situation is clearly more severe...... But how do you explain the curb rash???

The curb rash on my wheel happened at that same time, from rolling a few yards on the flat tire.
