Default After market warranty?? YES!!

Occasionally someone will ask if purchasing an aftermarket warranty is worth it.
I strongly recomend it. I purchased my "99" this past March and paid the additional $3,600 for a 3yr, or 36K miles. (with $100.00 deductable) and In just under six months and ONLY two repairs they have covered, . $1,251.00 out of $1,451.00.
Mass air flow, and left bank cam adjuster.

$3,600 for $1,000 worth of repairs (if done at an Independant) is "worth it"?

I'd say so, being that he's only had the car for 6 months. At this rate it will pay for itself in just over a year and a half.

With an extended warranty you're basically betting you are going to have a catastrophic repair event. If your car has been well maintained, good svc records then you're probably better off starting to do the work youself or find an indep shop you trust.
Probably the single worst thing that might happen on a 996 is an RMS, and that runs 6-800$. Engine and tranny failures while bad are very rare, esp in a well maintained car.

I'm with you Rick. Mine paid for my $8000 engine (rod bearing went out).

I'd say the warranty is good as long as the company honors their obligation and you don't plan on mods that will void the warranty. This is important esp for those who don't work on their cars.

For those mechanically inclined, you can usually repair problems for a few hundred bucks and save a grand or two for mods.

$3600 in repairs in 3 years is very unlucky I think C4S is right on the money. If you are starting with a well maintained and non abused example it is not worth the money. However, It would save you in the event you had complete engine failure. Although that is a far stretch on a car that would have 50-60K miles by the end of the warranty period. Especially when most EW's don't cover many parts i.e. inside electrical switches and such.

I look at it like a gamble. I am rolling the dice. Sure if I get an RMS it'll suck but 1k is better than 3600. That being said, I am sure some people really enjoy the peace of mind you get from a warranty which doesn't have a price. For me leaving a car stock is not possible so there's really no point, I'd rather roll the dice...

Rick, I am glad you are getting some value out of yours and it looks like it's almost paid for itself.

Well done,

MB

Warranty's are almost ALWAYS worth the money. I agree, buy the warranty. In every car ive owned as an adult (not counting those teenage years with beaters :-)) the warranty paid for itself... the only one so far is my Porsches.
